Essential Functions
The National Counterterrorism Innovation, Technology, and Education Center (NCITE) seeks a Research Associate to support NCITE faculty on federally funded projects researching terrorism prevention and counterterrorism. The research associate will provide leadership and autonomy in development of specific tasks across an interdisciplinary team of research faculty. We are particularly interested in a colleague who could help advance countering terrorism and targeted violence, bolstering suspicious activity reporting, and improving prevention efforts although the exact scope of work is dependent on research experience and interests.
A successful candidate will work with NCITE faculty and students to take a lead role in supporting and executing tasks including management of project deliverables, be productive in writing manuscripts and reports, and presenting research outcomes.
The successful candidate will apply domain knowledge working collaboratively in support supplementary NCITE terrorism and counterterrorism research projects providing scientific reviews of non-assigned project outcomes. Other duties include mentoring undergraduate and graduate students, and collaborating with NCITE government and industry partners.
NCITE is a growing and busy research consortium with current federal and state funding and potential future private and industry funding. Its audiences are many: federal, state, and local government leaders and elected officials; law enforcement entities; university administration and leadership; researchers and investigators in the NCITE consortium; and the public. With center growth, position may provide opportunity for the successful candidate to lead new research projects as principal investigator.

Work Schedule
M-F 8am-5pm

Additional Duties
  • Management of project activities (e.g., timelines and deliverables);
  • Conduct literature reviews related to best practices in relevant areas;
  • Interview practitioners and stakeholders as outlined in scope of project;
  • Lead meetings and briefings with key stakeholders inside and outside of federal funding agency.
  • Supervise undergraduate and graduate research assistants
  • Apply domain knowledge during scientific review of new and current research project proposals and deliverables.
  • Participate in weekly internal meetings, support during distinguished visitors and events and other initiatives as needed.

Required Qualifications
  • Master’s degree in political science, criminology, management, I/O psychology, or other security related fields
  • 3-5 years of experience designing and executing quantitative and qualitative research plans;
  • domain knowledge related to security related field(s);
  • ability to plan, organize and prioritize work and the work of others.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Individuals who are ABD or have a doctorate degree in political science, criminology, management, I/O psychology, or other security related field(s)
  • Showing strong oral presentation and facilitation skills to conduct regular meetings, interviews and workshops with senior federal leaders.
