Full Description

Under the general direction of the Financial Analytics Manager, the Operational Data Analyst is responsible for collaborating with cross-functional departments (HR, IT, Finance, etc.), analyzing operational data, designing data models and visualizations, and providing actionable insights to optimize processes and drive operational excellence.

The position will collect, transform, and analyze large datasets from various locations to identify trends, patterns, and opportunities for process improvement. The Analyst will also create and implement data models, metrics, dashboards, and reports to monitor and communicate operational performance indicators and provide recommendations for optimization. This positions will be expected to have a basic understanding of SQL scripting, and will learn and utilize analysis tools such Anaplan, AppSheets, Google Big Query, Google Sheets, Excel, SmartSheets, Looker Studio, and Tableau. They will ensure data integrity, implement data quality controls, and stay updated on industry best practices and emerging trends in operational analytics.

Additionally, the Analyst will provide training and ongoing support to users on data analysis techniques and tools.


This position may offer the ability to work remotely, within Arizona, based upon the department's business needs and continual meeting of expected performance measures.

Job Duties:
  • Conduct in-depth analysis of operational data to identify insights and opportunities for process improvement, including the creation of data dictionaries and cross-walks and perform root cause analysis to identify underlying issues and provide actionable recommendations.
  • Design and implement data models, metrics, dashboards, reports, and visualizations to monitor and communicate operational performance including the development and maintenance of operational performance metrics and key performance indicators (KPIs).
  • Collect, cleanse, and transform large datasets from various sources for comprehensive analysis.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional departments to identify operational challenges and determine data analysis requirements, ensure data integrity and streamline data collection processes.
  • Stay up-to-date with industry best practices and emerging trends in operational analytics.
  • Provide comprehensive training and ongoing support on data analysis techniques and tools.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities (KSAs):
Knowledge of:
  • Strategies for achieving effective data acquisition, management, quality, storage, use and application; applicable laws, rules, policies regarding security, privacy, and management of confidential data; statistical and business analysis; business operations, methods, and practices; workflow engineering; IT life cycle and information system design; qualitative and quantitative techniques for analyzing and measuring program/project efficacy; project management disciplines and techniques; statistical analysis techniques and root cause analysis.
  • Performance Management (PM), and Continuous Quality Improvement (CQI) and Lean methodologies.

  • Providing technical assistance to business partners; performing analytic functions including workflow and statistical analysis; effectively utilizing data collection, research, and analysis methodologies; communicating complex information to non-technical audiences; interpreting and evaluating information; oral and written communication.

Selective Preference(s):

1 year experience in data analytics, using tools such as Anaplan, Tableau, MS Excel & Google Sheets, Google Big Query, Oracle, MS Power Query, with a basic understanding of SQL, R, and Python is required; Bachelor's degree in related field/study and 1 yr experience is preferred.

Retirement:

To help you build a financially secure future, the State makes monthly contributions to finance your retirement benefit. The State will contribute to the ASRS in an amount equal to your contribution. In other words, you and the State will each pay 50% of the total cost of the benefit. New State employees have a 27-week wait period for contributions to begin.
