Position Overview
Butler University seeks a highly collaborative professional to join the division of Student Affairs team as the Associate Director of Service & Community Engagement within the Department of Student Involvement & Leadership. Butler University is nationally recognized by the Princeton Review for providing dynamic student involvement opportunities both on campus and throughout the city of Indianapolis. This Associate Director directly contributes to this recognition by enhancing student learning and development through meaningful community engagement, in-depth educational exploration, and intentional reflection. The Associate Director will actively contribute to a vibrant campus environment and collaborate with students, colleagues, and community partners to support the holistic development of the Butler University student body and develop lasting community partnerships within Indianapolis and beyond.
Responsibilities
- Provide leadership for Butler’s co-curricular student service and community engagement efforts, which advance University and Student Affairs strategic goals through BU|BeWell, our foundation for a transformative and holistic Butler experience
- Supervise, train and support the Community Engagement Program Council (CEPC) student staff and oversee all of their community engagement efforts including the BU Be A Volunteer Program, campuswide educational programming, and advocacy initiatives.
- Develop and implement the Pre-Orientation Program, Ambassadors of Change
- Plan, coordinate and implement large days of service including Bulldogs Involved Through Service (BITS).
- Advise the Butler Alternative Break student organization which coordinates Fall Alternative Break, Alternative Spring Break, and short term weekend service trips.
- Directly advise service-focused student organizations including College Mentors for Kids and The Patachou Foundation: Butler University. In addition, serve as an active and engaged resource for individual students as well as all recognized student organizations’ service initiatives. This includes presenting community engagement focused trainings and educational series, developing service sites, and other resources to support their efforts.
- Coordinate support for student basic needs and well-being including oversight of the Butler University Food Pantry
- Coordinate and implement co-curricular assessment for student leaders, student organizations, and office programs
- Represent the Department and Division by serving on committees within the university community.
- Other duties as assigned
Required Qualifications
- Master's degree in College Student Personnel or related field required
- Minimum of 4 years of experience in areas of service and community engagement within the field of higher education
- Demonstrated commitment to the growth and development of students
- Demonstrated commitment to diversity and inclusion
- Experience advising individuals and groups with a strong understanding of college student development theory
- Expertise planning and implementing service based programs with a focus on intentional education and meaningful reflection
- Excellent interpersonal skills and communication skills; both written and oral
- Command of technology including social media and other online sources
