Duties and Responsibilities: Reporting directly to the Chief of the Civil Division, the Assistant will assist the Chief in managing the work of the Division and creating systems and projects to advance medium and long-range goals in both Public Protection and Government Litigation. The ideal candidate will have the ability to exercise good judgment, have excellent listening skills and identify creative solutions in a variety of situations and will possess strong written and verbal communication and organizational skills. The Assistant must be able to work under pressure at times and handle confidential matters with discretion.


  • With the Chief, plan and develop projects and systems based on an understanding of the mission and the goals of the organization and the team
  • Support the Chief in day-to-day management, strategic communications, organizational strategy, and assessment
  • Set deadlines, monitor system and project success
  • Facilitate communication between the Chief and management and staff in the Civil Division
  • Prepare for and organize meetings and provide follow-up
  • Provide calendar management; prioritize inquiries and requests, troubleshoot conflicts, make judgments and recommendations to ensure smooth day-to-day functions towards identified goals
  • Gather and analyze information and develop tech systems to support on-going projects;
  • Hold Chief accountable to deadlines and goals
  • Maintain quality filing and communications systems including document management and archiving

Required Qualifications for Appointment

Qualifications:


  • Related work experience supporting a manager or projects
  • Familiarity with governmental, non-profit or corporate institutions and administration
  • Strong interpersonal skills including the ability to listen and to collaborate
  • Must take initiative, multi-task, be a team-player, be flexible, adapt to shifting priorities, and prioritize work
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills and analytical skills
  • Excellent organizational skills, commitment to accuracy and attention to detail
  • Ability to access a wide range of sources and networks for information
  • Good judgment and ability to function independently
  • High energy, enthusiasm and authentic dedication to public service
  • Good working knowledge of all Microsoft Office applications
