Description of Work


Position is clerical and will function at the Gates County Maintenance Unit with Division One in Gatesville, North Carolina. Duties include typing forms and correspondences, filing, computer data entry, assisting the public with maintenance inquiries/problems by telephone and in-person office contact, processing monthly reports in SAP and Excel, maintaining and ordering inventory/supplies, processing weekly payroll, processing invoice payments, completing worker's comp., accident, and other reports as needed, and other general office duties as required. Position is responsible for processing overtime, meal reimbursements, and travel advances associated with storm events. The employee will serve as the receptionist answering the telephone and directing calls to the appropriate person. The employee will assist employees with personnel related questions/documents. The employee may also be required to work extended hours during snow/ice and other emergency situations.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities / Competencies

  • Customer service experience, including resolving customer issues
  • Experience with Microsoft Office using programs such as Access, Word, and Excel
  • Experience completing and/or maintaining records and reports
  • Experience interpreting and/or explaining policies, procedures, and laws
  • Experience in recordkeeping

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements

High School diploma or General Educational Development (GED) diploma and two years of related administrative experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
