Non-exempt; part-time position working approximately 4-8 hours per week depending on how many games are officiated; Youth Leagues - various weekdays and weekends. All leagues are Recreation-based league. Leagues will practice and play at Peter Williams Park (1525 Lynn Road), with potential to meet at Lake Lynn Community Center (7921 Ray Road) if needed for indoor makeup games.

This person will have the opportunity to officiate soccer games for Youth Leagues (U4, U6, and U8 ages). They are expected to maintain a fun and safe environment for all participants. Keeping players safe and players healthy are first concerns, the official will promptly and decisively address unsafe situations as well as unsafe/inappropriate conduct on the part of coaches, players and spectators. Referees will also serve as field managers and will be responsible for equipment set up (pop up nets), time management, in addition to refereeing games. Location, time and duration of each game will depend upon schedule, location and other factors as determined by supervision. Necessary equipment will be provided by Lake Lynn Community Center. Supervision is received from Lake Lynn Staff.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Responsible for field managing and officiating youth soccer league games for youth soccer players aged 4-8.
  • Must be able to work Saturdays, 8:30 am - 3:00 pm, and occasional Monday-Thursday, 5:30-8:00 pm. Seasons run typically September-November and March-May.
  • Officiate soccer games according to set rules and with fairness and respect to all participants and spectators
  • Assure the return and condition of issued equipment and supplies
  • Compile and maintain record-keeping related to each game (e.g. signed waiver forms, attendance, rosters, game stats)
  • Assist with opening and closing procedures at park sites
  • Perform other related duties as required

Typical Qualifications

  • Must be at least 16 years of age
  • Have a good understanding of soccer, ability to interact well with volunteer coaches and youth players.
  • Must be able to pass a background check and Controlled Substance Test.
  • Ability to be flexible and work with various workgroups and in various settings;
  • Excellent leadership skills;
  • Professional, flexible, mature attitude;
  • Reliable transportation
