GENERAL DESCRIPTION:

The Wyoming Department of Transportation (WYDOT) is an agency committed to providing a safe, high-quality, and efficient transportation system for the State of Wyoming. We now seek a full-time Structural Detailer II located in Cheyenne, Wyoming.

Responsible for detailing structural drawings of bridges and other highway-related structures that enhance public safety and improve the state transportation system.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: The listed functions are illustrative only and are not intended to describe every function which may be performed at the job level.
  • Uses computer-aided drafting software, create accurate and complete structural details by referencing engineering computations, utilizing engineering theory, reviewing project-specific data, and following proper detailing procedures and office standards
  • Obtains records and information for use in structural details.
  • Verifies and makes corrections and additions to structural details
  • Calculates estimated quantities of materials required for contract bidding, construction, and project costs
  • Communicates with designers to ensure structural drawings are in compliance with engineering computations
  • Recommends minor adjustments in design to achieve simplicity and constructability
  • Utilizes trigonometry, algebra, and geometry, calculate reinforcing steel lengths and laps, girder piece lengths, cross-frame lengths, gusset plate dimensions, etc.
  • Participates in the review of drafting standards
  • Participates in technician meetings to review detailing standards

Qualifications

KNOWLEDGE:


  • Knowledge of drafting principals, practices, standards, and office policies that relate to structural detailing
  • Understanding of the practical applications of algebra, trigonometry, and geometry
  • Skilled in the use of computer-aided design and drafting software (Microstation and AudoCadd) word processing (Word or WordPerfect), and spreadsheet (Excel or Quattro Pro) computer applications
  • Ability to produce clean, legible, and organized work
  • Ability to give attention to details and work under pressure
  • Ability to work well with others

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Education:
Associate's Degree (typically in Physical Science)
Experience:
0-1 year of progressive work experience (typically in Transportation) with acquired knowledge at the level of a Design Assistant
OR
Education & Experience Substitution:
2-4 years of progressive work experience (typically in Transportation) with acquired knowledge at the level of a Design Assistant
