New Job Rubbish Loader In Maine

GENERAL SUMMARY:

Performs moderately heavy, unskilled, repetitive work in the collection and loading of refuse or recyclable materials on designated routes and other labor. Work is performed under general supervision– a supervisor makes periodic inspections to ensure satisfactory performance of work.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

· Loads residential and some business solid waste/recycling materials from street
into truck on regular basis.

· Starts hoisting device attached to rear of truck that raises dumpsters and dumps
contents into rubbish truck.

· Works alone or as a member of crew on caring for City streets using hand and
power tools and equipment.

· Performs various manual labor tasks at times in accordance with Labor job
description.

· Works with snow removal operations including shoveling, acting as a wingperson
on a snowplow unit, and using associated machinery such as power brooms or
snow blowers.

· Performs related work as assigned.

KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES REQUIRED:

· Knowledge of hand and power tools, equipment, materials, methods and practices
as related to work and of the hazards and safety precautions necessary in general
labor, repetitious lifting/throwing and maintenance work.

· Skill in operations of mechanical/hydraulic systems of the rubbish truck
compacting unit.

· Skill in performing routine maintenance as instructed.

· Ability to quickly make coordinated movements to effectively pick up the curbside
rubbish and recyclables.

· Ability to exert maximum muscle force to lift, push, pull, or carry objects and to do
so repeatedly and/or continuously over time.

· Ability to understand and follow verbal and written instructions.

· Ability to interact effectively and courteously with coworkers and the public.

· Ability to identify common occupational hazards and utilize safe work practices.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $17.28 - $21.30 per hour
