This is managerial, technical, and supervisory work in planning and overseeing the activities of the Records Division in the City’s Police Department to ensure compliance and adherence to policies and procedures in accordance with the “Best Practices” amongst law enforcement Records Divisions nationally. Work includes serving as the official Records Custodian for the department and managing operational requirements with all Federal, State, City and Department laws, ordinances, and policies for Records Services; managing compliance with Florida State Statutes for the fulfilment of public records requests for Police information; developing and maintaining working relationships with external agencies to include the Sixth Judicial Circuit Court, the State Attorney’s office, Public Defender’s Office, and the Florida Department of State Division of Library and Information Services; A candidate hired for this position manages the work products of the Information Services, Information Support, and Digital Evidence Management sections. A candidate hired for this position also prepares and presents recommendations and reports with respect to difficult operational and administrative problems and develops and implements those policies and programs necessary to ensure the efficient operation of Police Department Records Division. Work requires the exercise of considerable judgment, discretion, and tact to effectively work with outside organizations, contractors, citizens, neighborhood associations, and local businesses, as well as City employees and officials.

To Qualify

Minimum Qualifications. Applicants must:

  • Have a valid Bachelor’s degree – OR – a valid Associate’s degree and a combination of training, education, and experience may be considered in lieu of the Bachelor’s degree.
  • Possess and maintain a valid Driver License.
  • Have progressive experience within the disciplines of a Police Department’s Records Division.
  • Have detailed knowledge in Florida State Statute Public Records Law Chapter 119.
  • Have supervisory experience.
  • Have prior administrative experience providing budget, fiscal, and/or personnel management services.
  • Be experienced in the use of personal computers and business software such as Microsoft Word, Excel, Adobe, and Outlook.
  • Be able to communicate clearly and concisely, orally and in writing.
  • Acknowledge this position is designated as Emergency Critical (EC) and if hired into the position, you must be immediately available to the department before, during, and after a declared emergency and/or disaster.

Desirable Qualifications. Preferred applicants:

  • Have a valid Bachelor’s degree in related field.
  • Have some knowledge of the principles and practices of personnel management and budget preparation.
  • Have experience providing both fiscal and personnel management services for a large organization.
  • Have knowledge of the rules, regulations and ordinances governing a municipality to include Florida Public Records Law.


Minimum Qualification:
