DHHS Medical Cannabis Administration
Do you love to work in outreach and possess excellent communication skills? The Utah Department of Health Center for Medical Cannabis is looking for a medical cannabis outreach specialist to help engage in communication with stakeholders in the medical cannabis industry and other government agencies. This position requires excellent communication skills; the ability to efficiently use software; the ability to read, understand, and explain regulations and rules; and proficiency in MS Office and Google applications.
Pursuant to Utah Code §§ 4-41-107 and 26-61a-111, this job includes duties that arise from or directly relate to the Utah Medical Cannabis Act. Duties may require conduct which is in violation of the criminal laws of the United States with respect to the manufacture, sale, or distribution of cannabis. As a condition of employment, candidates who are selected to fill this position will be required to sign an Acceptance of Duties Under the Medical Cannabis Act Acknowledgment Form. Working Conditions:
- The typical office setting for this job is adequately lighted, heated and ventilated. However, you may encounter some risks that are associated with any office setting, for example, the safe use of office equipment, avoiding trips and falls, observing fire regulations, etc.
- Standard Schedule: Monday - Friday, 8:00 am to 5:00 pm
- Typically, the employee may sit comfortably to perform the work; however, there may be some walking; standing; bending; carrying light items; driving an automobile, etc. Special physical demands are not required to perform the work.
- Be aware that salary ranges specified reflect a minimum starting and top of range dollar amount. Actual rate per hour will be determined by evaluation of qualifications and skills of the individual and the availability of monies through budget and grants or by following DHRM rule.
Example of Duties
As a Medical Cannabis Outreach Specialist, you will:
- Manage outreach efforts to health care providers, medical clinics that offer medical cannabis recommendations, licensees (pharmacies, couriers), medical institutions, other stakeholders, and the public regarding Utah’s medical cannabis program.
- Draft and edit industry-wide bulletins and monthly updates.
- Deliver presentations to groups regarding medical cannabis regulation topics.
- Manage stakeholder outreach projects.
- Manage website and educational material design and content.
- Develop communications strategies that rely on best practices, evaluation data, and demographics.
- Maintain partnerships with various internal and external stakeholders.
Typical Qualifications
The Ideal Candidate
Has at least three years of experience in communications or stakeholder outreach.- Superior writing and editing skills.
- Demonstrated experience with delivering in-person and virtual presentations to groups.
- Demonstrated experience with development of communications strategies.
- Naturally collaborates with exceptional interpersonal and communication skills.
- Efficiently uses MS Office Suite, Google Drive, Excel, and other software programs.
