POSITION PURPOSE / IMPORTANT APPLICATION INFORMATION

The Maintenanceworker- Parking position is responsible for preventive and ongoing maintenance of parking facilities. Duties for this position include trash, snow and ice removal, installing signage, repairing parking lots and garages, power washing, landscape areas maintenance and answering questions from the general public.

The full salary range for this position is stated above. The starting range of pay is dependent on qualifications and experience of each individual candidate. The City of Westminster offers a bonus of up to $1,500 per year depending on the employee's fluency in Spanish, Hmong, Laotian, and/or American Sign Language (ASL).

Job Specific – Every employee in this position must be able to:
  • Utilize knowledge of standard operating procedures used in parking facilities cleaning and maintenance operations
  • Operating and maintaining maintenance equipment
  • Perform physical activities required to clean, inspect and make minor repairs and adjustments to buildings, equipment and landscaping
  • Perform heavy work on occasion, requiring lifting of up 50 pounds
  • Understand and learn essential laborer and custodial tasks
  • Understand and follow oral and written instructions
  • Collaborate effectively with other City employees, contractors and members of the public

JOB SPECIFIC FUNCTIONS

Essential Job Functions, Duties, Responsibilities, and Tasks


  • Responsible for keeping all parking facilities clean and well-kept
  • Snow and ice removal: by shoveling and or plowing in parking facilities
  • Regulatory, informational and wayfinding signage installation
  • Sweeping parking facilities
  • Painting and other minor repairs in City parking and/or other city-owned facilities as needed
  • May be required to work holidays, weekend and overtime as needed
  • Responsible for trash removal from all parking facilities
  • Responsible for light landscaping maintenance in City-owned parking facilities
  • Valid driver’s license at the time of application and for duration of employment; capable of driving and operating other maintenance equipment as part of daily work assignment and driving in all weather conditions
  • Other custodial responsibilities as assigned
  • Maintains regular and punctual attendance
Incumbent is accountable for all duties of this job, and other projects and responsibilities may be added at the City’s discretion.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS/WORKING CONDITIONS/PRE-EMPLOYMENT REQUIREMENTS

Required:


  • High School diploma of equivalent
  • Valid driver's license and maintenance of safe driving record
Preferred :
  • Experience with building maintenance and snow removal
  • Experience working outdoors and installing signage
Any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience, which would provide the required knowledge and skills, may be considered.
Physical Requirements
Work is physical in nature and requires sufficient physical strength and stamina to:
  • Occasionally sit while driving to work assignments and performing office tasks; frequently stand and constantly walk on uneven terrain in all weather conditions to safely complete assigned tasks
  • Occasional squatting, twisting, climbing, and balancing to inspect assigned areas and perform snow removal
  • Frequent bending, kneeling, and reaching below shoulder to perform job duties
  • Frequent light/firm grasp to properly use tools and equipment; occasional fine manipulation use to perform office duties; constant handling to use safely use machinery and heavy equipment
  • Occasional stepping up and/or down to enter and exit vehicles and climb ladders; constant actuate mechanism to safely operate heavy equipment and vehicles
  • Standard near and/or far acuity and hearing
  • Occasional lifting of up to fifty (50) pounds from ground to waist to move material and supplies; constant carrying of up to twenty-five (25) pounds

WORKING CONDITIONS
The maintenanceworker will spend a significant amount of time outdoors in all weather conditions while working in parking lots and parking garages. Must demonstrate the ability to meet the physical demands of the job, including the ability to retrieve information from various locations in the office when needed. Exposure to periods of high activity and stress under demanding conditions. The position requires a great deal of communication with City employees, the public, and outside agencies.
Required Materials and Equipment
City vehicles, hand and powered maintenance tools, sign post driver, snow blower, snow plowing truck, power washer, sweeper and scrubber, saws, trash receptacles, ladders up to 45 feet in height, cherry picker/bucket truck, shovels, personal computers and keyboards, telephones, adding machines and other basic office equipment.

The City of Westminster does not participate in the Social Security system. In lieu of social security contributions, the city contributes to a 401(a) defined contribution plan on your behalf.

401(a) Contribution Rates:
Employee Mandatory Contribution: 11% of your base pay. Contributions are pre-tax and fully vested.
Employer Contribution: 11.25% of your base pay.
