Key Responsibilities:
Key Responsibilities:
- Coordinate the work of employees and perform professional journalistic functions in the development, implementation and distribution of informational programs and materials to the public. This is accomplished in various formats and includes developing and implementing social media strategies.
- Originate, assemble, organize information, and write articles for the Kentucky Teacher online publication. Work with members of KDE staff from all divisions to coordinate social media posts, stories, and strategies to ensure there is a consistent message and a united brand across the offices. Take photos and work with others in the agency on selecting the best photos for publications.
- Research and prepare state education commissioner's weekly electronic newsletter for all KDE users, state board members and education cabinet officials. Respond to inquiries.
- Create original social media postings using text, infographics, photos, video, and other visual mediums to convey communications about the work of KDE and the Kentucky Board of Education (KBE). Maintain and monitor the agency’s social media sites to ensure updates and social media trends. Ensure content and posts are accessible to all audiences.
- Perform journalistic research, editing, and revising of materials for publications.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Strong interpersonal skills, good judgment, and an ability to work both independently and in a highly collaborative environment.

- Strong social media skills and attention to detail; A high level of integrity and professional accountability.
- Alignment with the mission of the Kentucky Department of Education.
Minimum Requirements
EDUCATION: Graduate of a college or university with a bachelor's degree.
EXPERIENCE, TRAINING, OR SKILLS: Three years of experience in journalism, public relations, or experience related to the duties and responsibilities of this job title series.
Substitute EDUCATION for EXPERIENCE: NONE
Substitute EXPERIENCE for EDUCATION: Experience in one of the above areas will substitute for the required education on a year-for-year basis. Current or prior military experience will substitute for the required college on a year-for-year basis. Prior military experience will only substitute if the individual received an honorable discharge, discharge under honorable conditions, or a general discharge.

Probationary Period
This job has an initial and promotional probationary period of 6 months, except as provided in KRS 18A.111.
