What is this career opportunity?
This position works as part of a small team that strives to have a large impact on the success of local governments. Our role is to assist and support local government entities (LGE) and their elected officials, board members, and employees to be in compliance with Montana law. We provide guidance and training on financial reporting, taxation, and changes in governmental accounting and auditing standards.
We are seeking an individual with a balance of accounting expertise and soft skills to work with the wide variety of stakeholders we serve. It would be great if you were seasoned in governmental accounting, but we are also willing to train an individual with excellent soft skills and a passion for public service.

In this position you will be afforded the opportunity to telework, however there will be required weekly in office day(s) in Helena. Specific conditions will be outlined as part of the job offer and must adhere to state policy.

- Apply principles and practices of accounting and budgeting
- Conduct technical research related to accounting, reporting, and auditing
- Provide guidance on accounting entries and adjustments to LGEs
- Creation and maintenance of financial reporting tools and templates
- Analysis and review of financial reports, audits, and corrective action plans
- Provide training to small and large groups
Education and Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting. OR
- Other combinations of education and experience will be assessed on a case-by-case basis.
- Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP)
- Generally Accepted Auditing Standards (GAAS)
- Governmental accounting, auditing, financial statements, and budgeting
- Governmental Accounting Standards Board (GASB) statements
- Federal Office of Management and Budgets (OMB)
- Governmental accounting, auditing, financial statements, and budgeting
