Job Summary

The Water Treatment Plant Operator is responsible for ensuring the smooth operation of the water treatment plant for the City of Blair and surrounding areas. This includes the testing and treatment of water as well as the maintenance of equipment. This job is a shift job meaning you will rotate working weekends and overnights.

Essential Job Responsibilities

  • Testing and treatment of water
  • Conduct tests on the water at regular intervals and record the information, ensuring accuracy of the measurements including all required EPA, & NHHS required tests.
  • Adjust chemicals as necessary to the water to bring various conditions of the water in compliance with state and federal guidelines.
  • Continuously keep up-to-date on latest regulations and guidelines regarding water quality standards.
  • Maintenance and upkeep of equipment
  • Perform preventative maintenance tasks such as greasing chains and fittings, minor pipe repairs, etc. on equipment to include pumps, chains, holding tanks and feeders.
  • Monitor equipment performance and notify management as necessary of any concern outside of the scope of responsibility.
  • Maintain proper safety standards at all times when performing maintenance on equipment, to include wearing all required personal protective equipment (PPE).
  • General Facilities Maintenance and Janitorial work
  • Keep facilities clean and in an orderly manner to include sweeping, mopping and trash removal.
  • As needed, spray for weeds on exterior of the building as well as snow removal.
  • Performs other duties as needed

Education

  • Minimum of a High School diploma or GED required.

Experience

  • Minimum one year of experience in a maintenance or mechanical role is preferred.
  • An equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the job duties and responsibilities.

Certifications and Licenses

  • Must have a Water Operator License Grade 4 or higher, or be able to obtain one within 6 months of hire.

Work Environment

  • Work is performed in a water treatment plant with some exposure to dust, dirt, heat, fumes, contaminants, cold, noise, wetness, and other elements. Work may also need to be performed in confined spaces or at heights exceeding six feet.

Travel

  • Less than 5% travel is required.
