Job Summary
Under general direction the person in this position maintains grounds, right-of-ways, buildings, various structures, landscaping and other recreation facilities as directed. These activities are conducted on the Backcountry Trail System and various coastal recreational facilities. Operates light equipment such as tractor and skid steer and drives vehicles, ATVs, UTVs and vessels. Perform routine manual labor activities such as mowing, watering, trimming, fertilizing, planting, clear brush, felling trees, janitorial services, equipment maintenance/repair, facility repair and construction. Assist other staff with implementation and operation of all Coastal Resources programs as assigned.

Work hours will vary depending on the project as well as some work being required after hours and weekends.
Essential Job Functions
Clears brush, trims trees, trims fence rows, fills low spots, and maintains trail right of ways as needed.

Maintains repairs and installs structures (gazebos, pavilions, benches, signs, bins, bridges, etc.)

Operate mower, tractor, loader, skid steer, trimmer, chainsaw, auger, sprayer, and other similar equipment as necessary.
Perform preventive maintenance and repair activities as required on vehicles and equipment.

Utilize common hand and power tools such as circular saw, pneumatic nail, reciprocating saw, driver and drills.

Maintain repairs and constructs facilities as needed.

Qualifications
Possess a valid Driver"s License.

Have the physical tolerance to work outdoors in extreme weather conditions.

Willing to work overtime and nonstandard hours, weekends and holidays as needed.

Possess and maintain current Red Cross or equivalent CPR/First Aid w/AED Certification (may be acquired on the job).
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
New Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Details - Verbal skills to communicate effectively with supervisor, general public and co-workers.

Reading skills to read plans and instruction
Computer skills to prepare reports and send messages, etc.

Ability to operate various equipment and tools, including, but not limited to: agricultural tractors, all-terrain vehicles, Commercial mower, blade/string trimmers, chainsaws, power tools, tow-behind blower, golf cart, etc.

Driving skills to safely operate vehicle on and off-road with and without a trailer.

Knowledge of maintaining facilities and grounds.

Knowledge of custodial/janitorial work.

Knowledge of city rules, regulations, policies and procedures.

Mechanical skills to perform routine maintenance checks on tractor, mower, and truck.

Knowledge of safety roles, including accident causation and prevention.

See well enough to safely drive truck, operate equipment and read print.

Hear well enough to respond to verbal communications; hearing aid acceptable.

Body movement or mobility to bend, reach, crawl, walk, and drive safely.

Speak well enough to converse with supervisor, co-workers, and the public.

Strength to lift and transport heavy items (+/- 50lbs) such large limbs, firewood and tools.
Education and Work Experience
Possess a High School diploma or equivalent.

Physical Demands and Work Environment
Work requires some physical exertion such as long periods of standing; long periods of sitting, walking over rough, uneven or rocky surfaces, recurring bending, crouching, stooping, stretching, reaching or similar activities, recurring lifting of moderate to heavy items up to 50lbs such as lawn equipment, bagged concrete or large timbers. The work may require specific, but common, physical characteristics and abilities such as above-average agility and dexterity.
Work involves moderate risks or discomforts which require special safety precautions, e.g., working around moving parts, carts or machines, with thorny vegetation or irritant chemicals, etc. Employees may be required to use protective clothing or gear such as coveralls, masks, gowns, coats, boots, helmets, gloves, goggles, respirators or shields.
