The City of Laramie is accepting applications for a Solid Waste Worker. Solid Waste Workers operate sanitation vehicles on city streets and in alleys, collecting refuse and/or recyclables on pre-designated routes in all types of weather. They may occasionally assist with duties as assigned at the landfill/recycling center.
Ideal candidates will be highly motivated and eager to put their skills to use in a safe and efficient manner while providing excellent customer service.
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
Drive and operate automated collection trucks. Trucks are automated but lifting heavy cans and bags for extended time may be needed.
Operate Hook Lift trucks, roll-off trucks.
Observe trash and recycling for compliance of rules and regulations.
Maintenance of dumpsters including painting, welding, repair, etc.
Maintain simple records and logs; complete reports as necessary.
Observe safety precautions while operating large vehicles and equipment.
Inspect and review condition of equipment including checking oil and water levels, brakes and lights; washing, cleaning and performing maintenance to collection equipment; filling and greasing vehicles; changing tires; draining air tanks. Assist mechanic when needed.
Assist with landfill duties, including litter collection as needed.
May be required to work Holidays and/or weekends on occasion.
Perform other duties as required.
QUALIFICATIONS (A combination of the following experience and training, or the equivalent of, would be qualifying):
Possession of a Commercial Driver"s License (Class B minimum) is highly preferred, but at minimum, the ability to obtain a Class B CDL within 6 months.
Some experience in heavy truck operation.
Special Requirements: Ability to sit, stand, kneel, crouch, squat, stoop, reach, crawl, twist, climb, and lift 75 pounds; exposure to cold, heat, noise, outdoors, vibration, confining work space, mechanical hazards, dust and other allergens; ability to travel to different sites and locations.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships.
