Full Description
The Senior Writer and Editor provides writing and editing support for external and internal communications across a variety of channels. Reporting to the Director of Communications and Public Relations, the Senior Writer and Editor will engage and collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to maintain and improve organizational communication and enhance UNE’s reputation among key audiences. They will support the Office of Communications across a broad array of areas including media relations, internal communications, and writing and editing across a variety of channels.
The Office of Marketing and Communications provides strategic and creative leadership and support for the University of New England across all media and communications platforms. Responsibilities
- Write and edit messages from senior leadership to draft messages to the UNE Community around important announcements, updates, and initiatives.
- Maintain the UNE Writing Style Guide.
- Provide writing and proofreading support for printed materials, event scripts and remarks, slide presentations, website copy, social media copy, marketing materials, and other materials and channels.
- Develop and maintain strong relationships with faculty, professional staff, and administrators to ensure a positive and ongoing flow of communication. Draw on these relationships to learn about compelling stories and important developments within UNE’s colleges, departments and programs.
- Provide writing and support process for the UNE Magazine.
- Write press releases and articles for the UNE News website section.
- Support the Public Relations team in media relations efforts, including pitching stories to news media and fielding inbound media inquiries.
- Perform other communications duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in journalism, English, writing, marketing, communications, or related field required.
- Minimum of seven years of communications experience.
- Must be a strategic thinker who can comfortably and professionally interface with senior leaders.
- Excellent writing and proofreading skills and experience writing for print and digital platforms.
- Outstanding communication (written and oral) and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to develop strong collaborative partnerships and earn trust within the organization.
- Ability to successfully manage multiple projects simultaneously, to develop appropriate priorities, and meet strict deadlines. Flexibility to work occasional nights and weekends.
- Ability to effectively communicate university strategic decisions and messages to a variety of stakeholders.
- Must be a self-starter, energetic and strategic thinker with a passion for innovation, collaboration and team work.
- High level of discretion is required.
- Must possess a strong understanding of web technologies including social media.
