Learn and grow:
The Municipal Court is a separate arm of City government. This position is a second level classification that is responsible for more complex cases involving criminal misdemeanor charges. Criminal dockets include Arraignments, Motions, Show Cause Hearings, Entry of Pleas, Jury Trials, Status Hearings, and Sentencing.

What you will do:
The Senior Court Operations Specialist performs a variety of complex administrative and clerical duties to support court operations and the legal process. This includes working in the courtroom on a rotational basis during court proceedings to support multiple judges and interacting with prosecution and defense attorneys, language interpreters, defendants, and other internal staff. Court employees are required to initiate, maintain, and preserve defendant records of court actions and maintain confidential records for financial, personal, medical, and law enforcement information. Other work includes but is not limited to monitoring probation, community service verification, issue and recall arrest warrants, initiate payment plans for defendants, and work with the police department or jail facilities. This position requires the ability to be detailed oriented and maintain concentration for a long period of time. Due to the nature of work and duties you may perform, the ideal candidate for this position must be able to process all records and court documents at an 80 percent or higher accuracy rating.

  • Position schedule is in person Monday-Friday, between the hours of 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.

What are the minimum qualifications?
  • Must pass a pre-employment background check.
  • High School diploma or G.E.D, and three years of increasingly responsible experience of a general clerical nature involving a high volume of public contact and processing financial, administrative, or legal documents, or any combination of experience and training that demonstrate possession of the knowledge, skills, and abilities as listed, and ability to perform the essential job functions.
  • Must pass the criminal background check necessary to obtain Criminal Justice Information System clearance and Law Enforcement Data Systems (LEDS) certification within 30 days of hire and maintain certification throughout employment in the Municipal Court Division.

Preferred skills:
  • Bilingual -English/Spanish, English/Pacific Islander preferred.
  • Previous experience using Law Enforcement Data Systems (LEDS) preferred.
  • Previous court or legal office experience preferred.
  • Knowledge of Oregon Revised Statutes (ORS), Division of Motor Vehicles (DMV) regulations, Salem Revised Code (SRC), traffic violations and correlating processes preferred.
  • Ability to multi-task.
  • Experience working with a variety of in person contact and providing excellent customer service.
  • Accurate documentation.
  • Demonstrated accurate written communication
  • Ability to defuse emotional or stressful interactions in a diverse population.
