Education and Experience: High School Diploma or GED, or higher and two (2) years of clerical experience involving public contact, including one (1) year of customer service experience.

Licenses and Certificates: Valid Texas Class "C" Driver's License or equivalent from another state by time of appointment. Texas Crime Information Center (TCIC), National Crime Information Center (NCIC) certifications and Criminal Justice Information Services (CJIS) Security Awareness Training within eighteen (18) months of appointment. Must maintain all licenses and certifications throughout the course of employment.

Special Requirements: Must be able to type at a rate of 35 wpm by time of appointment and successfully pass an audiogram and stringent background investigation.

General Purpose

Under general supervision, answer and direct incoming non-emergency calls, document non-emergent police-reports and enter confidential information into automated records systems.

Typical Duties

On assigned shift, answer all incoming calls and complete non-priority police reports, forms and other necessary paperwork. Involves: Determine nature of call, verify location of call and governmental jurisdiction. Interviews callers to gather information and advise citizens on civil, criminal and traffic laws. Determine if matter is criminal or civil, take report or refer caller to appropriate department. Transcribe oral statements from Computer Aided Dispatch (CAD) from victims and witnesses. Assist with shift monitor duties by monitoring call queue board for waiting calls and make notifications to ensure coverage. Write daily activity logs, process tows, and correspondence.

Complete police-reports and forms including incident, supplement, and traffic reports in accordance with applicable policies and procedures. Involves: Verifying the proper penal, family, health, State or local code violation is cited on reports/forms. Enter motor vehicle accidents into the Crash Record Information System (C.R.I.S.) and create diagram based on information provided by caller Log impounded and abandoned vehicles and determine whether vehicles are stolen. Perform TCIC/NCIC entries, operate other computer systems as required. Enter, update and retrieve information from computerized systems relating to stolen property, vehicle registration, or other related information. Attend scheduled shift meetings to keep abreast of events or changes in applicable laws, policies or procedures. Attend court to testify as required.

Perform related duties of coworkers as necessary to ensure continuity of operations during absences. Advise supervisor in a timely manner of situations or issues that have or could lead to deviation from expected results. Assist in training of new employees. Assist in the training process, provide guidance and direction to trainees and evaluate trainees' performance. Test and inspect equipment as required and notify supervisor of any malfunctions. Maintain accurate records and activity statistics, log daily events, and prepare periodic reports.

Note: Candidates must provide a typing certificate by the time of appointment to demonstrate they meet the minimum typing requirement of 35 wpm. Candidates who fail to provide a typing certificate will be disqualified from the hiring process. Typing credentials that have been completed within last two years will be accepted from the School Districts, International Business College, University of Texas at El Paso, El Paso Community College, and the Texas Workforce Commission. Typing Certificate must be on company letterhead, state gross words per minute, net words per minute, and number of errors.
