Full Description

  • Reports directly to the chief of special investigations as an agent assigned to the major crimes and public corruption unit for the office of inspector general.
  • Focus will be on public corruption cases.
  • Participates in the detection of crime and enforcement of criminal laws for the SCDC.
  • Plans, conducts, and completes criminal and/or administrative investigations, or conducts portions of an investigation with other agents and performs tasks supporting other law enforcement agencies as requested.
  • Assist local and state law enforcement agencies as requested.
  • Obtains and serves warrants when warranted.
  • Required to respond after hours for emergency needs and for extended state emergencies.

State of South Carolina Minimum Requirements:
A High School diploma and experience performing patrol or investigative duties with a public law enforcement agency. Bachelor's degree may be substituted for the required law enforcement experience.

SCDC Minimum Requirements: (Or an acceptable equivalency as approved by the Division of State Human Resources).

  • A Bachelor's degree.
  • One (1) year experience in Law Enforcement.

OR

  • An Associate's degree.
  • Two (2) years experience in Law Enforcement.

OR

  • A High school diploma.
  • Three (3) years experience in Law Enforcement.

Required certification: certification by the law enforcement training council in accordance with 23-23-40 of the code of laws of South Carolina 1976 which requires either current class 1 certification by the SCCJA or class 1 certification by the SCCJA within one (1) year of employment. Incumbent must satisfactorily complete all academic and on the job training by the South Carolina department of corrections. Twelve (12) months’ work experience in correctional security or police work.
