The Public Health Investigations team has an opening for a Food Safety and Cannabis Investigator I. This role is responsible for conducting investigations in both food and cannabis regulated businesses. The short-term goals of this position are to become proficient in conducting inspections and investigations in regulated food facilities such as restaurants, hotels, grocery stores, food trucks, and temporary food vending as well as within cannabis businesses. The investigator will become able to independently manage an inspection workload and prioritize their work effectively to meet deadlines. The long-term goal of the position is to become independent and confident in performing high level investigations, determining investigation outcomes, and effectively communicating to a variety of stakeholders.
Job duties and responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to, the following:
  • Visit food and cannabis establishments and conduct inspections/investigations, business license sign offs, and respond to public complaints
  • Interact with business owners, employees, citizens, and other stakeholders to educate them on applicable health regulations
  • Write detailed reports and summaries of investigations
  • Execute educational and/or enforcement actions
  • Identify problems and recommend solutions to DDPHE leadership
  • Along with all department staff, this position will actively participate on an emergency preparedness and response team to support DDPHE’s responsibilities outlined in the City’s Emergency Operations Plan. This may require being ‘on-call’ from time to time to help respond to emergencies. Additional training commensurate with assigned duties will be provided.
