The SCDOT team recognizes the importance of all SCDOT divisions, units, and offices functioning as one team – One SCDOT. We are looking for an Employee Relations Consultant who, under general supervision, consults and advises on employee relations issues Agency-wide.

Consults with directors, managers, supervisors, District Human Resources Managers (DHRMs), Headquarters Human Resources (HQ HR) Liaisons, and employees concerning employee relations issues within the Agency. Researches issues and provides guidance. Processes disciplinary actions to include coordinating grievances and complaints. Assists with the investigation of a variety of human resources issues (EEO, Wage and Hour, Harassment, ADA, Discrimination, employee disputes, hiring, etc.) to ensure that effective, legally compliant resolutions are determined in a timely manner and within guidelines and regulations.

Consults with employees and supervisors regarding a variety of procedures and program requirements in order to provide necessary information for decision making, taking appropriate action and/or referring to another entity, if necessary. Exercises a high degree of expertise while coordinating and reviewing return to work status and/or requests for reasonable accommodations.

Manages the Unemployment Program for SCDOT. Handles unemployment benefits claims. Responds to correspondence from the Department of Employment and Workforce (DEW) accurately and within required timelines. Collaborates with DHRMs and HQ HR Liaisons, supervisors, and the Legal Division, as necessary. Maintains a tracking spreadsheet that records all correspondence received from DEW and SCDOT's associated response time. Maintains the unemployment files by calendar year received, and is responsible for adhering to the applicable retention schedule.

Develops and maintains a positive working relationship with management, DHRMs, HQ HR Liaisons, and employees. Works closely with legal staff/representatives, State Human Resources Division, State Human Affairs Commission, EEOC and other related entities. Provides required information in a timely manner.

Develops and provides training to supervisors and employees ensuring all are knowledgeable of current practices, regulations and laws. Collects related data and provides statistics, as necessary. Completes special projects as requested. Performs other related duties as required.

A bachelor's degree and two and one-half (2.5) years of relevant human resources experience. Relevant experience may substitute for the educational requirement on a year-for-year basis.
