Duties

  • Plan, develop, and administer data for the utilization, storage, cleaning, conditioning, and retrieval of data.
  • Design and complete analytics for complex data projects involving broad and varied subject matter.
  • Analyze data collection gaps and recommend modifications for collection methods.
  • Employ programming languages to normalize, manipulate, and enrich datasets, including composing scripts to automate recurring or continuous manual data processes affecting multiple squads and/or programs.
  • Utilize various methodologies to evaluate data, determine relevant patterns, and identify boundaries for application of data in qualitative and quantitative analyses.
  • Present visualizations and data analysis findings to executive management and external audiences.

Qualifications

Specialized Experience Requirements

GS 07: Applicants must possess at least one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS 05 grade level. Specialized experience is defined as follows:
  • Collected information to be used in formal presentations.
  • Communicated orally and in writing to provide information related to data analysis.
  • Assisted in reading, interpreting, modifying, and executing basic scripts.
GS 09: Applicants must possess at least one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS 07 grade level. Specialized experience is defined as follows:
  • Assisted in the preparation of briefings and presentations which may include visualization of data into tables, charts, diagrams, or other graphics.
  • Assisted in determining areas of concern with regard to requirements and automation.
  • Assisted in basic data pre-processing, to include data cleansing, deduplication, and normalization.
  • Assessed data quality and validity before altering datasets or performing data analysis.
  • Read, interpreted, modified, and executed basic scripts.
GS 11: Applicants must possess at least one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS 09 grade level. Specialized experience is defined as follows:
  • Assisted in the design of data analytics and data warehousing systems.
  • Assisted in determining areas of concerns with regard to requirements and automation.
  • Determined and communicated trends and patterns to identify information gaps and identify anomalies from various sources.
  • Wrote basic scripts to normalize, manipulate, and enrich datasets.
  • Stored and retrieved information, applied sorting theories, and conducted data sampling.
  • Participated in the planning and preparation of briefings and presentations which may include visualization of data into tables, charts, diagrams, or other graphics.
  • Collected, organized, analyzed, and disseminated information.
GS 12: Applicants must possess at least one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS 11 grade level. Specialized experience is defined as follows:
  • Determined areas of concern with regard to requirements and automation.
  • Planned, prepared, and presented briefings and presentations which may include visualization of data into tables, charts, diagrams, or other graphics.
  • Participated in the design of data analytics and data warehousing systems.
  • Collected, organized, analyzed, and disseminated significant amounts of information.
  • Designed, wrote, and executed scripts to automate recurring or continuous manual data processes.
  • Acquired, evaluated, and prepared data for use in models and simulations.
GS 13: Applicants must possess at least one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS 12 grade level. Specialized experience is defined as follows:
  • Retrieved, analyzed, and provided recommendations on the usage of data obtained from a variety of sources.
  • Provided recommendations on the modification and implementation of data collection
  • methods including the integration of new technologies (e.g. machine learning, artificial intelligence).
  • Developed specialized plans to obtain desired information from available data sets; assessing the information available and identifying the appropriate technologies and methodologies to apply.
  • Utilizes scripting language to automate manual data processes; developing and customizing scripts to address unique or specialized scenarios.
  • Communicated with customers to establish data needs, and provided presentations, visualizations, charts, diagrams, and other related products to clearly illustrate the results of data analysis.

Education

All degrees must be from an accredited college or university. Education may be substituted for specialized experience as follows:

GS 07: Applicant must have a bachelor's degree with superior academic achievement or one (1) full year of graduate level education. Superior academic achievement is the completion of all the requirements of a bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university, which is based on (1) class standing, (2) grade-point average of 3.0 or higher as recorded on an official transcript, or as based on courses completed during the final two years of the curriculum, or (3) honor society membership.

GS 09: Applicant must have a master's or equivalent graduate degree or 2 full years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to such a degree or LL.B. or J.D., if related.

GS 11: Applicant must have a Ph.D. OR equivalent doctoral degree OR 3 full years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to such a degree OR LL.M., if related.

GS 12 and above: Education may not be substituted for specialized experience.

Degrees must be in one of the following fields: computer science, engineering, information science, information systems management, mathematics, operations research, statistics, or technology management OR a degree that provided a minimum of 24 semester hours in one
or more of the fields identified above and required the development or adaptation of applications, systems or networks.

Additional information

Salary and Compensation: The salaries listed above are the Base rate of pay for federal employees on the General Schedule (GS) pay scale. Please be advised that in some locations the IT Specialist (System Administrator/Customer Support) position may fall under a Special Rate Table. Special Rate Tables 999B, 999C, 999D, 999E, 999F, 999AA, 999AH, and 999AP may be used based on location and/or grade.

In order to recruit and retain highly qualified candidates, selectees may be eligible for relocation or recruitment incentives. To be eligible for a relocation incentive, proof of change of residency will be required. Prior to receiving a relocation or recruitment incentive, an employee must sign a written service agreement to complete a specific period of employment with the FBI at the new duty station.

Location Availability: In addition to the 10 locations listed above, there are multiple positions available across the nation.

The Memphis Field Office and Knoxville Field Office are in the process of consolidating to create one Field Office in Nashville, TN. Memphis and Knoxville will become Resident Agencies of Nashville. **As a result of the consolidation, this position will be permanently relocated to Nashville, TN.
