Job Summary
Under general direction the person in this position maintains city buildings in clean and orderly condition. Perform custodial duties and minor repairs. Assists in sanitation control and checks safety hazards. Performs cleaning and janitorial duties, and minor repair work, reports needs for major repairs, keeps janitor"s room neat, assists in control of sanitation. Hours worked will be primarily nights and weekends. Essential Job Functions
MAINTENANCE
Checks and coordinates cleaning schedule on building rentals.
Maintains restrooms at all buildings, i.e. (commodes, sinks, walls, sweep, mop the floors and clean mirrors, etc.)
Maintains kitchen areas at all buildings, i.e. (sinks, refrigerators, freezers, counter tops, sweeps and mop floors, etc.)
Empties trash receptacles and replaces trashcan liners.
Vacuums carpeted areas and spot cleans carpets, if needed.
Sweep sidewalks in front of buildings.
Reports any needed repairs to Maintenance Supervisor.
Assists in other departments as may be directed by supervisor.
Perform other duties as required. Qualifications
Possess a valid Driver"s License.
Willing to work overtime and non-standard hours, weekends and holidays as needed.
Hear well enough to respond to verbal communications; hearing aid acceptable.

Knowledge of city and department rules, policies and procedures.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with supervisors, co-workers and general public.
Knowledge of safety and health standards regarding the operation of public buildings.
Thorough understanding of the operation of custodial procedures, equipment and techniques. Education and Work Experience
Possess a High School diploma or its equivalent. Physical Demands and Work Environment
Work requires some physical exertion such as long periods of standing, walking over rough, uneven or rocky surfaces, recurring bending, crouching, stooping, stretching, reaching or similar activities, recurring lifting of moderately heavy items. The work may require specific, but common, physical characteristics and abilities such as above-average agility and dexterity.
Work involves moderate risks or discomforts, which require special safety precautions when working around moving parts, carts or machines with irritant chemicals, etc. Employees may be required to use protective clothing or gear such as masks, gowns, coats, goggles, or shields.
