Full Description

Essential Functions:

Develops and delivers highly effective, learner-focused instructional materials that promote community-oriented policing services
Works with instructors to create training curricula, lesson plans and teaching material as well as submitting materials for approval to the Kentucky Law Enforcement Council (KLEC)

Examples of Duties

UNDER ADMINISTRATIVE SUPERVISION
Writes training curriculum
Benchmarks training and development needs from comparable units
Coordinates training curriculum approval process with the Kentucky Law Enforcement Council
Assesses the work environment for the design of training programs
Ensures training curricula meets standards set by the Chief of Police and outside entities
Develops and sequences learning objectives
Works with instructors to select and evaluate instructional strategies to ensure learning objectives are created in effective and achievable ways
Researches the industry for sustainability and maintenance to stay current on learning methodologies
Employs methods of instruction that increases learner understanding and retention
Develops and selects learning aides
Writes comprehensive lesson plans
Validates curriculum delivery in the training course
Conducts training evaluations
Makes recommendations for staff development and overall agency improvement
Performs related work

Minimum Requirements

Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Communications, Education, English, Journalism, Social Science, Social Work, or a Related field

WORK EXPERIENCE
Five years of experience in teaching and writing training curricula for adult learners

EQUIVALENCY
An equivalent amount of education or experience may be substituted

OTHER MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
POLICE
Must not have been convicted of a felony
Misdemeanor convictions will be considered on an individual basis
Must submit to a pre-employment drug screening
Must submit to a pre-employment polygraph test
Must provide one's own source of transportation
Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license
Must work a varied schedule
Applicants who have bought, sold, or used marijuana within one year of application, or have bought, sold or used any controlled substance or narcotic drug without a prescription within six years of application will be disqualified
Must not have retired, resigned, or separated from employment with a law enforcement agency under investigation or due to pending or final disciplinary actions

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS AND WORKING CONDITIONS
Meets regular and punctual attendance standards and any special needs of the position as determined by management, including mandatory overtime and performing related work
