What You Will Do

Do you have a passion for planning large scale or special events? Do you have an eye for detail and enjoy managing data or developing content? If you answered "Yes" to either or both we encourage you to learn more about our opening for a Government Affairs Specialist (awards, galas, and special events). The ideal candidate will interface with various stakeholders across the organization to coordinate all aspects of event and communication logistics. You will use your skillset in project management, knowledge for high-level communication, and be responsible for all tasks related to the event life cycle.

What You Need

Minimum Job Requirements:

Hospitality or Creative Professional

You must have at least two years of experience in one or more of the following: Event Management, Copy Editing, Data Management, Visual Design, Media Production, and/or Audio Visual.

Project Management

You must have experience interacting with various stakeholders and managing a variety of tasks. You have an eye for detail and have a proven track record of managing multiple simultaneous work assignments under the pressure of deadlines, frequent interruptions and changing priorities. You must have experience with detailed record keeping and the ability to make informed decisions.

Vendor and Stakeholder Communications

You must have experience communicating with stakeholders at all levels of an organization. This may include hotels, catering, audio visual, and/or communications teams. You will need experience directing staff or volunteers in stressful situations and ensuring the work is completed to organization standards. You will have the professionalism and aptitude to write a script, control very large data sets, design an eye-catching invitation, and/or manage registrations.

Software Skills

Knowledge of database, event, and/or communications software. You will be able to research and implement new software and processes as they relate to data management, registration, and communications plans.

Reliability & Dedication

You must have a demonstrated record of punctuality, an eye for detail, ability to manage simultaneous work assignments and willingness to go the extra mile for customers which may involve irregular hours.

Education/Experience: Position requires a Bachelor's Degree and a minimum 5 years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Preference may be given for education or experience in hospitality management, business administration, marketing, public relations, or communications.

Desired Qualifications:

Protocol

It would be a plus if you were familiar with business, government, and cultural protocol.

Industry Knowledge

It would be a plus if you have prior exposure to one or more of the following: hospitality industry standards, marketing communications, event/registration software, and/or hotel/catering sales.

Continuous Improvement

It would be a plus if you have a proven track record of procedure improvement or implementation of new processes.

Work Environment: Occasionally, working alone, working overtime or irregular schedule, use of safety glasses or eye protection, and use of safety shoes or protective footgear.

Work Location: The work location for this position is hybrid and is located in Los Alamos, NM. Hybrid is defined as working partially onsite/partially offsite but within 2 hours ground commute of this location. All work locations are at the discretion of management and can change at any time with appropriate notice.

Position commitment: Regular appointment employees are required to serve a period of continuous service in their current position in order to be eligible to apply for posted jobs throughout the Laboratory. If an employee has not served the time required, they may only apply for Laboratory jobs with the documented approval of their Division Leader. The position commitment for this position is 1 year.

Additional Details

Directive 206.2 - Employment with Triad requires a favorable decision by NNSA indicating employee is suitable under NNSA Supplemental Directive 206.2. Clearance: Q (Position will be cleared to this level). Selected applicants will be subject to a background investigation conducted by or on behalf of the Federal Government, and must meet eligibility requirements* for access to classified matter. This position requires a Q clearance. and obtaining such clearance requires US Citizenship except in extremely rare circumstances. Dependent upon the position, additional authorization to access classified information may be required, which may or may not be available to dual citizens. Receipt of a Q clearance and additional access authorization ultimately is a decision of the Federal Government and not of Triad.

  • Eligibility requirements: To obtain a clearance, an individual must be at least 18 years of age; U.S. citizenship is required except in very limited circumstances. See DOE Order 472.2 for additional information.

New-Employment Drug Test: The Laboratory requires successful applicants to complete a new-employment drug test and maintains a substance abuse policy that includes random drug testing. Although New Mexico and other states have legalized the use of marijuana, use and possession of marijuana remain illegal under federal law. A positive drug test for marijuana will result in termination of employment, even if the use was pre-offer.

Regular position: Term status Laboratory employees applying for regular-status positions are converted to regular status.

Internal Applicants: Regular appointment employees who have served the required period of continuous service in their current position are eligible to apply for posted jobs throughout the Laboratory.
