Position Summary
Works under limited supervision to assist in the implementation of Shelby County"s Safety Plan; to investigate reports of personal injury involving County employees; to assist in training employees in Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR), First Aid, personal safety, and the training of County employees in the use of equipment and hazardous chemicals.
Pay Grade: 51
Salary Commensurate with Experience and Education Minimum Qualifications
100.00% - 1. Three (3) years of progressive responsible administrative experience in safety, environmental, or health management and compliance; AND
2. Bachelor"s degree in occupational health and safety, business or public administration, management or closely related field; OR
3. An equivalent combination of education and/or experience.
4. First Aid/CPR/AED required.
5. 30-Hour OSHA certificate preferred.
6. PROOF OF EDUCATION, TRAINING, AND/OR EXPERIENCE IS REQUIRED. Duties and Responsibilities
1. Makes visual inspections of County facilities and employees" worksites to assess compliance with the County"s Safety Plan and OSHA standards.
2. Performs job safety analyses and investigates complaints of safety and health hazards.
3. Offers first aid assistance and supplies to County offices and the public, as required.
4. Investigates selected job injuries, incidents that involve damage to County property or equipment, and related incidents; recommends solutions, corrective actions.
5. Assists staff members in conducting training classes in first aid, cardiopulmonary resuscitation, and defensive driving, when offered by the County.
6. Provides on-going instructions to County employees in the use and importance of personal protective equipment, materials, and procedures and in the use of hazardous chemicals on the job.
7. Serves as a resource for line management to develop and administer a proactive prevention program for accidents and illness per County requirements.
8. Investigates other incidents or claims as assigned by the manager or other management.
9. Develops and maintains written safety programs on various topics and work processes.
10. Works with the OJI Manager and Claims Coordinator to investigate and assist with on-the-job injury claims.
11. Utilizes the hierarchy of controls methodology as a means to best implement feasible and effective control solutions.
12. Prepares OSHA 300 log and various reporting; distributes to department accordingly.
13. Stays abreast of changes in safety regulations, practices, and trends in OSHA/TOSHA requirements and standards.
14. Must maintain confidential information
15. Performs other related duties as required or directed. KSA's
KSAs - 1. Considerable knowledge of state and Federal regulations relative to safety, health, environment, or ability to acquire quickly.
2. Direct knowledge of current OSHA standards as they related to the workplace.
3. Knowledge of fire codes, hazardous materials, current OSHA regulations, and/or chemicals preferred.
4. Ability to deal tactfully with employees, management, elected officials, and the general public.
5. Exercise good judgment in analyzing problems and evaluating situations and making decisions.
6. Ability to make verbal presentations and to convey information clearly and persuasively.
7. Ability to maintain accurate, current records and generate complete and timely reports
8. Adapt and perform consistently under changing requirements and dynamic work situations.
9. Mechanical and electrical aptitude preferred.
10. Knowledge of appropriate investigative techniques and methods.
11. Knowledge of inspection techniques and procedures.
12. Advanced digital literacy with Excel, Word, and PowerPoint required. Physical Requirements
1. Must be able to lift 15 pounds at times.
2. Ability to travel throughout facilities to conduct safety inspections. Special Requirements
Must possess a valid Tennessee driver"s license or secure one upon date of employment. Disclaimer
