The starting monthly salary is at the minimum rate of pay advertised above.

Pursuant to the federal Homeland Security Presidential Directive (HSPD) 12, prospective new hires selected for positions with the Division of Vocational Rehabilitation's Disability Determination Branch will undergo a comprehensive federal background Public Trust, Tier 2 (Moderate Risk) level investigation. A suitability determination by the federal Social Security Administration is necessary to determine whether an employee can be issued credentials in order to have access to Social Security disability data, Personally Identifiable Information (PII) in DDS Operations, and detailed medical records and systems. Additionally, Internal Revenue Service (IRS) Publication 1075, as amended, requires anyone with access to Federal Tax Information (FTI) to undergo a minimum of a Tier 2 (Moderate Risk) investigation.

As a condition of employment with the State of Hawaii some positions may require that all qualified external candidates who have been given a conditional offer of employment to show proof of full COVID-19 vaccination and shall be fully vaccinated by his/her/their employment start date. A reasonable accommodation will be provided if requested by a candidate and it is determined through an interactive process that pregnancy, a qualifying disability, or a sincerely held religious belief prevents the candidate from receiving a COVID-19 vaccination.

Duties Summary

As an entry level trainee, receives on-the-job training in the principles, concepts, work processes, methods and techniques, and reference material fundamental to professional level work in the review and certification of the medical and non-medical aspects of claims for disability insurance benefits, and the continuation of benefits, under the provisions of the Federal Social Security Act; receives orientation to the goals, objectives, philosophy, policies, procedures, rules and regulations pertinent to the processing of disability claims; and performs other related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualification Requirements

To qualify, you must meet all of the following requirements:

Prerequisite Knowledge and Abilities Required:

Knowledge of: Research methods and techniques; report writing; problem solving methods and techniques.

Ability to: Learn the principles, concepts, work processes and reference material fundamental to the work to be performed, and the goals, objectives, philosophy, policies, procedures, rules, and regulations pertinent to the program; successfully complete assignments selected to develop the employee for higher level work; and establish and maintain effective working relationships with others.

Education: A bachelor's degree from an accredited four year college or university.
