Job Announcement

Since 1977, the Fairfax County Department of Transportation (FCDOT) has served the Fairfax County community by enhancing mobility, safety, and the quality of life of residents, businesses, and visitors through planning, coordinating, funding, implementing, and sustaining a multimodal transportation system. FCDOT is seeking an experienced transportation or facility management professional to serve as the Park and Ride Coordinator. This position is primarily responsible for establishing and maintaining county leased and owned Park and Ride lots to promote transit, vanpool, and carpool use. This position will provide a challenging and rewarding experience for an individual interested in and committed to reducing single occupancy vehicle travel in Fairfax County.

Responsibilities include:

  • Conducting periodic site visits to all Park and Ride lots in Fairfax County to assess utilization, conditions, and needs of the sites; coordinating maintenance and repair work at the sites
  • Working with contractors to address needs, including maintaining availability during inclement weather events
  • Identifying and contacting property owners to discuss leasing parking spaces and establishing a Park and Ride on their property
  • Coordinating development and finalization of lease agreements between Fairfax County and property owners for leasing parking spaces as public use Park and Ride lots
  • Maintaining the filing system of Park and Ride lease agreements
  • Assisting with ongoing management of current leases, including facilitating periodic payments
  • Ensuring compliance with any agreement or lease negotiated
  • Representing Fairfax Connector and FCDOT for Fairfax County Park and Ride expansion and construction projects
  • Working with other Transit Services Division staff to develop Transit Service recommendations for Park and Ride maintenance and expansion projects
  • Maintaining databases and inventories of Park and Rides in Fairfax County; looking for resources and opportunities to establish Park and Rides
  • Performing other duties as assigned

Note: This position has been identified as an Emergency Service Personnel required to work during inclement weather or other emergencies, as well as serve on-call on an assigned schedule. Off-site meetings and site visits may require the operation of a personal and/or county vehicle.

Employment Standards

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Any combination of education, experience, and training equivalent to the following:

Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with a bachelor's degree in civil engineering, urban, regional or transportation planning, or a closely related field; plus two years of professional experience in civil engineering, urban, regional or transportation planning, or a closely related field.

CERTIFICATES AND LICENSES REQUIRED:
A valid motor vehicle driver's license.

NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
The appointee to this position will be required to complete a criminal background check and driving record check to the satisfaction of the employer.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:


  • Five years of experience in public/private transportation, facilities maintenance, or parking management
  • Knowledge of transit infrastructure asset management and performance measures used in Park & Ride maintenance
  • Knowledge of contract management and contractor compliance with parking lots operations and/or maintenance
  • Strong customer service orientation
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently in a fast-paced collaborative team environment
  • Demonstrated ability to develop and maintain cooperative and effective working relationships with private contractors, county officials, staff, and the public
  • Proficiency in basic Microsoft Office Suite applications.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Work is generally sedentary. However, employee may be required to do some walking, standing, bending, and carrying of items less than 25 pounds in weight. Conducts periodic field observations requiring standing, riding, and exposure to the elements (weather). All duties performed with or without reasonable accommodations.
