What You'll Be Doing

The Onboarding Manager is a member of the Talent Acquisition and Compensation team that is responsible for the development, management, and evolution of a new employee onboarding and offboarding program. The Manager recruits and hires staff to assistant in program implementation. This position creates a ‘best-in-class’ employee experience by partnering with each department to plan, communicate, and execute onboarding strategies for frontline staff to senior leadership. The Onboarding Manager ensures a smooth onboarding process to create a “WOW“-factor experience to attract and retain employees. The right candidate will balance the needs of our growing, fast-paced organization with a thoughtful, thorough, and well-designed approach.

Essential Functions

Develops, implements and manages a comprehensive onboarding program to ensure a partnership between new employees, hiring managers, and HR while establishing an effective long-term working relationship between the employee and the County
Fosters a seamless and positive onboarding experience that solidifies each new employee’s decision to join Wake County
Acts as an ambassador to new hires and facilitates the introduction to Wake County
Serves as a liaison with HR, Parking, IT and Hiring Department on hiring cycles and employee onboarding
Creates and maintains onboarding program materials and website
Develops and manages county-wide background check program
Oversees communications with new hires before their start date through first year of employment
Coordinates relocation procedures
Creates processes to assist existing employees as they transition to a new department
Collaborates with departments to create employee engagement ideas and processes
Incorporates retention strategy for designated time periods throughout the new hire’s onboarding process
Gathers employee experience feedback
Develops and manages metrics and KPIs of the onboarding program’s effectiveness
Coordinates the offboarding process
Supervises onboarding/offboarding staff

The Basics (Required Education and Experience)
Bachelor's degree in Human Resources Management, Public Administration, Business Administration or related field
Five years of experience in human resources administration directly related to the position’s functional area, including at least two years of supervisory experience
Equivalent education and experience are accepted
Beyond the Basics (Preferred Education and Experience)
Employee onboarding/offboarding experience
Employment background check experience
Project management experience
