Why does the job exist?
Incumbent will be responsible for connecting assigned clients in the community with public benefits, community resources, education services, basic needs, etc. The Family Outreach Community Engagement Worker will be responsible for advocacy, referrals, and follow-up to services within the community and working in coordination with community providers. Incumbent will also be cross-trained in receiving, composing, editing and submitting reports of allegations of abuse and neglect referrals for children by telephone for all counties on a statewide basis.
How does it get done?
- Worker will receive screened out referrals of alleged child abuse and/or neglect. (40%)
- Worker will utilize appropriate judgment in the screening process per CYFD policy and Structured Decision Making Tool (SDM) procedure, and uphold professional standards. (20%)
- Demonstrate proficient telephone protocol. (20%)
- Gather all relevant information by the family for appropriate screening determination. (20%)
Minimum Qualification
Bachelor's Degree in Social Work, Education, Counseling, Psychology, Sociology, Criminal Justice or Family Services from an accredited college/university. Any combination of education from an accredited college or university in a related field and/or related experience totaling four (4) years may substitute for the required education and experience.

Working Conditions
State of New Mexico employees may be impacted by the Public Health Order dated December 19, 2022, which requires facilities licensed or certified by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services ("CMS"), including all hospital types, long-term care facilities, nursing homes, hospice facilities and rehabilitation facilities, as well as assisted living facilities and adult day care settings, to adhere to all COVID-related requirements prescribed by CMS, including, but not limited to masking and staff vaccination.
Work is performed in an office setting with extensive exposure to regular periods of video display terminal and keyboard usage and phone usage. Travel may be required. Possible exposure to irate clientele. Incumbent will work under stress and frequent time constraints. The Statewide Central Intake operates 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
