Job Description

Job Title: Equipment Operator

Department: Street

Reports To: Supervisor

Summary

Operates heavy equipment to assist with the construction, maintenance, and repairing of City Streets by performing the following duties.

Essential Duties and Responsibilitiesinclude the following. Other duties may be assigned.

Responsible for operating various light and heavy equipment, including but not limited to excavator, backhoe, front end wheel loader, dozer, motor grader, forklift, hydraulic concrete breaker, and lowboy truck, in the construction, maintenance, and repairing of City streets.

Assists other work duties when not operating equipment.

Cuts trees and runs chipper.

Performs basic maintenance and up keep on ball fields, gravel roads, and shoulders.

Greases, oils, and performs minor repairs on equipment.

Must have some knowledge of a track hoe and lowboy.

Supervisory Responsibilities

This job has no supervisory responsibilities. Must be able to work with little or no supervision.

Qualifications

Education and/or Experience

High school diploma or general education degree (G.E.D.). Must have at least two years experience operating light and heavy equipment.

Language Skills

Basic language skills are required.

Mathematical Skills

Basic mathematical skills are required.

Reasoning Ability

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions. Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.

Computer Skills

No computer skills are required for this position.

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations

Must have a valid driver’s license; a CDL with specialized endorsements are necessary to operate some equipment.

Other Skill and Abilities

Must have at least two-three years experience with most of the following: excavator, backhoe, front end wheel loader, dozer, motor grader, forklift, hydraulic concrete breaker, and lowboy truck.

Other Qualifications

Overtime and on call duty may be assigned if needed with little or no advanced notice.
