The Senior Consultant, Corporate Partnerships will leads the strategy and team to build and maintain large-scale corporate partnerships of the highest mutual value for the companies and Ohio State, with a focus on transformational partnerships of $5 million or more. Collaborates with university and industry leaders to identify and mature high-level opportunities to establish master research agreements, generate sponsored research projects, new grant opportunities, affinity/business opportunities, workforce development initiatives, and talent and experiential learning efforts. Develops strong relationships with faculty and research leaders to identify areas of opportunity to build long-term portfolios of corporate support.
The consultant will manage two Liaison, Corporate Partnerships positions and lead operations activity on the Corporate Partnerships team needed to build complex, large-scale corporate partnerships on behalf of The Ohio State University. This includes improving collaboration and communication around corporate activity across Ohio State by working with OCIO on full scale development of Ohio State’s Salesforce CRM for corporate activity; working with Strategic and Competitive Intelligence to gather business intelligence and engagement activity critical for developing transformational corporate partnership strategy; overseeing work with MarComm on development of marketing and collateral materials to share the value proposition and progress of corporate partnerships; and partnering with the Office of Academic Affairs to launch and manage the Corporate Insight Advisory Council to gather industry insight on talent, workforce, research and innovation needs and provide feedback on University initiatives. The consultant will also lead the optimization of processes and procedures to ensure high-quality customer experience and make it attractive for companies to partner with Ohio State and improve our joint processes with sponsored programs, technology commercialization, legal affairs, and Ohio State compliance units impacting our corporate partners. Operates with a high degree of independence to make decisions, solve problems, negotiate, and adapt to shifting priorities.
Provides expert guidance to corporate partners by collaborating to understand their goals, investments, industry driven needs, and strategic direction, offering solutions that leverage Ohio State’s strengths, represent their individual needs, and add value to their business and the university. Understands the corporate partners’ goals, strategies, and processes, and proposes opportunities to maximize value beyond the partner’s immediate requests. Identifies, plans, and implements strategic, holistic engagements with key corporate partners. Leads key strategic relationships and partnerships. Partners with Senior Director, Corporate Partnerships and Associate Vice President, Corporate Partnerships in development of long and short-term goals, strategic plan, and annual business planning efforts. Regularly summarizes progress, status and conveys through written and verbal means to keep the team updated. Continually evaluates efforts and optimizes for success. Builds and maintains strong internal and external networks to drive innovation processes and interdisciplinary collaboration, ensure mutual value and cultivate long-term relationships.
Required Work Experience:
8 - 12 years of experience in corporate relations, business development or industry-university research; proven success in building large-scale partnerships and achieving business development goals. Metrics and results driven. At least seven years of new prospect development of complex alliances between academic, public, and private sector sponsors and partners; experience identifying, assessing, and resolving public-private partnerships, sponsored research, and technology deployment challenges and opportunities in higher education; ability to lead effectively and collaboratively toward goals in a complex, diverse environment with multiple and changing demands; deals well with ambiguity and paradox; ability to develop strong relationships and work with senior-level administration, faculty, and staff to reach collaborative, outcome driven solutions; possesses outstanding verbal, written and visual communications skills.

12+ years of experience in corporate relations, business development or industry-university research.
