Job Summary
Direct the operation of the two-campus bookstores ensuring that qualified personnel, procedures, inventory, equipment and technology are in place to provide the highest possible level of service to the college community.
Specific duties include:
- Lead, supervise, and direct department personnel, including hiring, coaching and developing, promoting, rewarding, assigning and reviewing work, directing work, approving transfers, disciplining, suspending, discharging, and adjusting grievances to ensure that staff are skilled and available as needed, collective bargaining agreements and MnSCU policies and procedures are implemented and appropriately enforced, and projects are staffed correctly to meet deadlines and stay within budget.
- Develop and evaluate bookstore policies, processes and procedures to ensure each campus bookstore operates efficiently and auxiliary enterprise policies are met; uniform practices are established and implemented at both campus bookstores; and financial records are accurately maintained in coordination with the Accounting, Financial Aid, and Tuition Offices.
- Manage daily retail operations to include retail, cash flow, and technology while maintaining a student-focused, service-oriented operation with up-to-date Point-of Sale/Inventory Control system and website; open-to-buy inventory levels; emerging college bookstore trends; and needed software and hardware technology.
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Business-related field or minimum of 4 years retail operations experience or equivalent combination of education and work experience.
- Experience working with retailing practices and procedures.
- Inventory control, open to buy, budget preparation and forecasting experience.
- Leadership, supervisory and managerial skills required for planning, directing and evaluating job performance.
- Demonstrated computer and database management skills.
- Ability to lift up to 40 lbs.
Preferred Qualifications
- College bookstore experience
- Supervisory experience.
- Demonstrated knowledge of the principles and practices of large bookstore operations, including publishing, discounts, returns and wholesale pricing policy.
- MBS Store Technology systems or equivalent experience
Physical Requirements
- Ability to lift up to 40 lbs.
Additional Requirements
In accordance with the Minnesota State Vehicle Fleet Safety Program, employees driving on college/university business who use a rental or state vehicle shall be required to conform to Minnesota State's vehicle use criteria and consent to a Motor Vehicle Records check.
