By joining our Department of Highways as an Administrative Specialist II in Jefferson County, you will have the opportunity to provide professional support in the review, evaluation, development and implementation of Transportation Cabinet activities.

Holders of the Administrative Specialist II position will complete tasks such as:
  • Interprets and applies laws, rules, regulations and policies applicable to the Transportation Cabinet
  • Reviews administrative regulations to determine the need for policy and procedure
  • Reviews the need for additional equipment, supplies and materials and makes recommendations for requesting more
  • Contacts field personnel by phone or in person to resolve inconsistencies or inaccuracies in payroll and reports of work performed
Holders of this job will obtain the following skills
  • Learn to enter information into computer software used for road construction and maintenance
  • Learn to communicate with the public regarding road maintenance and construction
  • Learn to assist with personnel functions such as payroll and employee benefits
  • Learn established policy and follows established procedures
Desired candidates possess the following requisite skills or experience applicable to the position:
  • Administrative experience
  • Experience with Microsoft Office Software
  • Experience meeting deadlines
  • Willingness to work shift and on-call schedules
Holders of this position will mainly work in an office setting on a computer. Attendance during inclement weather is required.

Minimum Requirements
EDUCATION: Graduate of a college or university with a bachelor's degree.

EXPERIENCE, TRAINING, OR SKILLS: One year of professional, administrative, or business experience.

Substitute EDUCATION for EXPERIENCE: Additional education will substitute for the required experience on a year-for-year basis.

Substitute EXPERIENCE for EDUCATION: Additional administrative, business, research, and/or clerical experience will substitute for the required education on a year-for-year basis.

Incumbents working in this job title primarily perform duties in an office setting.
Probationary Period
This job has an initial and promotional probationary period of 6 months, except as provided in KRS 18A.111.
