Facilities Services is part of University Services which also includes Engineering & Utilities and Campus Planning, Design, and Construction. Facilities Services is charged with the maintenance and operations of all university buildings, residence halls, family graduate housing, grounds, and infrastructure systems. Facilities is comprised of the three service management areas; Environmental Services, Campus Maintenance, and General Operations.

Duties and Responsibilities
  • Manage and develop project budgets, scope, schedule, and authorities, in conjunction with appropriate parties.
  • Coordinates with private contracting firms to accomplish tasks beyond the technical capabilities and/or in excess of the manpower or equipment availability of Campus Maintenance.
  • Manage and oversee delivery of multiple simultaneous construction and/or maintenance projects.
  • Provide Quality Control and Quality Assurance on multi-trade work orders, projects, and work performed by contractors.
  • Ensure that services are provided to the University community that are of high quality, effective, and in compliance with applicable code, regulations, and industry standards.

Required Qualifications – Experience, Education, Knowledge & Skills
  • Bachelor’s degree in relevant field, plus relevant progressively responsible experience in construction field, or an equivalent combination of relevant education and experience.
  • Record of progressively responsible operational management experience in a large, multi-building environment.
  • Demonstrated experience in resource (personnel and budget) supervision and management.
  • Experience in multi-trade work management including work coordination, materials procurement, and contractor management.
  • Ability to use database system and other programs to provide reports and updates regarding project progress.
  • Demonstrated experience with quality customer service.
  • Experience with Computer Maintenance Management Systems (CMMS) information management, work management, scheduling, and report on work order progress.

Preferred Qualifications – Experience, Education, Knowledge & Skills
  • Experience in a public institution environment.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and experience using AIM (CMMS System)
  • Knowledge and ability to apply the principles, practices, technologies, and techniques of all aspects of maintenance, renovation, construction, and reconstruction to devise practical solutions to complex problems.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of sustainable building and maintenance practices and processes.
  • Demonstrated successful project management skills including estimating: project coordination and analysis, and contract management.

The Successful Candidate Will
The successful candidate will have a wide-ranging knowledge of infrastructure maintenance, repair programs, and technologies, as well as projects related to buildings and structures, mechanical systems and equipment, plumbing systems and fixtures, building automation systems and devices, electrical systems and devices, fire protection/suppression systems, security and access systems and devices, conveyance systems, and other related equipment used by employees and contractors in order to optimize short- and long-term costs for asset integrity and sustainability plus proficiency in staff supervision/development and budget, project and contract management.

  • Work effectively with multiple departments across campus.
  • Use Microsoft Office and other relevant software.
  • Communicate effectively both verbally and in writing with a variety of audiences.
  • Provide strong leadership.
  • Represent the department and MSU to others in a professional and courteous manner.

Position Special Requirements/Additional Information
Must possess currently or be eligible to obtain a valid State of Montana Driver’s license and have an acceptable driving record (less than 12 points), and meet all State of Montana requirements to operate State/University vehicles. Must have access to a vehicle to use for work (mileage will be reimbursed), and have minimum vehicle liability insurance. Do NOT send a copy of the driver’s license. (If not in possession of a Montana driver’s license at time of hire, must obtain within 60 days of hire.)

Incumbent will attend and participate in required training for the use of personal protective equipment and comply with requirements for use of employer provided equipment.

Physical Demands
Position duties may require investigation and inspection of facilities, systems, and equipment involving confined areas, manholes, vaults, tunnels, roofs, catwalks, and ladders.

Position requires exposure to temperature extremes, noise, heights, energized utility systems, and chemical, biological, and radiological hazards.

Position may require occasional travel.
