Summary or Purpose
Maintain an up-to-date knowledge of US and Alaska Department of Education policy directions
and related federal and state grant programs. Apply for appropriate educationally related grants
and oversee their management within the compliance aspects of the uniform administrative
regulations, cost principals and audit requirements. Position grant supplemental programs to
augment core curriculum, provide assistance to high-risk students and gather required
accountability data. Anticipate accurately and prepare for future auxiliary programmatic needs.
Work to broaden NSBSD relationships with foundations and increase private sector partnerships.

Education and/or Experience:
• Bachelor’s Degree preferred.

  • Three years grant management/writing experience. Grants Mgt. Certification preferred.
  • Three years’ experience in an educational setting required, Alaska experience preferred.
  • Three years’ experience with Uniform Administrative Requirements, Cost Principles, and

Audit Requirements for Federal Awards and/or state grant regulations;

  • Working knowledge of personal computers required.
  • Two years accounting/budget experience;
  • Cultural awareness, sensitivity and the knowledge of the culture required

Researches and identifies grant opportunities that meet the District needs and are consistent
with the District’s mission, goals and strategic plan.

Ability to perform a CFDA search, locate and download RFP’s, determine applicable
regulations and circulars and consult Federal Register announcements.

Monitor fiscal and programmatic compliance of grant or contract language against federal and
state regulations.

Monitor grant financial requirements, coordinates communications and assures fiscal
compliance with funding agency.

Implement administrative controls to comply with federal and state audits.

Maintain regular and on-going contact with appropriate federal and state grants program
managers and fiscal administrators. Compile and submit in a timely manner all required
compliance reports and data.

Write and compile grant application packets, formulate budgets, obtain all required forms and
adhere to deadlines. Be familiar with e-grants procedures. Ability to conceptualize approach
to a specific grant for educational purposes and then develops the grant application in an
efficient and timely manner.

Make contacts with foundations and potential private sector partners, develop relationships
with these entities, and pursue non-traditional funding opportunities. Develop useful
applications and innovative approaches with both foundations and private sector partners.

Monitor grant expenditures, provide program(s) oversight and keep District Administration
informed with regard to grant related information of importance.

Work with principals, regional federal programs oversight committee and NSB School Board to
coordinate supplemental programs.

Participate in district administrative and management meetings when requested.

Work closely with business and data management and analysis offices.

Strong work ethics coupled with the drive to make a difference are necessary.

Monitor multiple grant programs and take steps to ensure that funding is utilized as fully as is
practicable within the scope of the pertinent grant parameters.

Work with support staff and ensure that adequate levels of training and job skills are available
to complete needed tasks.

Prepare (or oversee preparation) of needed budget revisions, extension documents, surveys
and other necessary paperwork as required for proper administration of each grant,
foundation, or private sector partnership program.

Work with grant writers as needed and monitor new grant possibilities as to pertinence with
regard to the district’s educational goals and needs.

Write grants as required, including the ability to synthesis information and deploy it into the
requisite application process for grants, foundations, or private sector partnerships.

Work with North Slope Borough Grants Department for any grant funding opportunities to meet
School District needs.

Perform other tasks and assume other responsibilities as the supervisor may assign.
