Job Summary
Under the direction of the Director of Equity and Inclusion, this position will help with the design and implementation of the City of Lawrence"s Equity and Inclusion efforts and initiatives, equity and inclusion training, organizational development, and leadership training opportunities to City employees. They will be expected to continuously research the most current Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion best practices and policies to provide ongoing guidance to internal staff. Provides guidance to retain, promote, and develop diverse talent for the organization. Developing evaluation plans and metrics of success; working with all entities in the City to ensure that the principles of diversity, equity, and inclusion are woven into the fabric of the organization.
Job Responsibilities
100.00% - The Organizational Equity Coordinator position is designed for an individual with strong leadership and relationship building skills who is interested in serving as the primary liaison to other City Departments and external groups who are working towards equitable delivery of City services and critical community services. They will support the Management Team by integrating current thought, literature, research and trends about Equity and Inclusion into decision-making and organizational development. The person in this position engages in skill building, facilitation, dialogue, and conflict management, towards the end goal of systems changes to improve equity.

The work requires thorough knowledge of the principles and practices of civil rights, disability rights, equal opportunity and relevant laws, rules and regulations; conflict resolution methods and techniques; working knowledge of social justice theory, affirmative action, implicit bias, historical sources of disparities, as well as individual, institutional, and structural racism; knowledge of racial equity related policy; and of public administration principles and practices.
Qualifications
Qualifications - - Bachelor"s degree from a four year college or university with major coursework in Public Administration, Communications, Cross-Cultural Communication, Sociology, Social Work, Education, Organizational Development, Ethnics Studies, Diversity Management or a related field.

  • Two (2) years of experience in the design, implementation and assessment of organizational development strategies and initiatives; leadership development and coaching; teaching; training, and/or delivering learning content to adults in matters such as workplace equity, diversity, and inclusion.
  • Some paid or volunteer experience in work which has included extensive interaction with underrepresented groups in the United States; experience working with a diverse workforce and population; graduation from an accredited college or university with major coursework in a related field; or any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the essential knowledge, skills and abilities.
The ideal candidate will be an inspiring, collaborative, courageous, innovative and visionary leader with outstanding people and management skills. The successful candidate must possess, or be able to obtain, a valid drivers license and pass City background, physical, and drug screens.
