The Stabilization and Crisis Unit (SACU), part of the Oregon Department of Human Services (ODHS), is looking to hire one Direct Support Crisis Specialist to join our Crisis Outreach Assessment Team (COAT) in the Eugene/Springfield – Lebanon area.

This is the schedules we are filling in the Lebanon/Eugene/Springfield Area .

  • Monday - Friday, 12:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.

ABOUT THE PROGRAM

SACU provides 24-hour residential care and supervision to individuals with intellectual/developmental disabilities, often with co-occurring mental health diagnoses, whose support needs exceed the supports offered or provided by other community-based residential programs. We provide training and support for the purpose of assisting individuals in safely transitioning back to their home community. We model positive attitudes while offering health and medical supports, psychological services, emotional and behavioral support, life skills training, educational supports, recreational opportunities and community integration. We are dedicated to providing the support necessary to maintain the quality of life, achieve the highest possible level of independence and promote social opportunities, which benefit the individuals and the community.

We operate over 20 residential group homes along the I-5 corridor from Portland to Eugene.

WHAT YOU WILL BE DOING

You will provide direct care and/or support in a 24-hour, 7 days per week residential group home to children and adults in: behavioral management, safety, personal care, nutrition, housekeeping, health care and other daily activities within the home and the community. As a member of the Crisis Outreach and Assessment Team (COAT) you will work in a specific region as part of a mobile unit comprised of Direct Support Crisis Specialist’s and Psychiatric Social Worker’s to respond to crisis in the homes and build rapport with supported individuals and house staff for crisis support.

WORKING CONDITIONS

  • Extensive travel within assigned area; will work remotely at multiple Group Homes within the area.

  • You will work in a home environment, which is staffed 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

  • You will work with combative, unpredictable, argumentative, aggressive children or adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities.

  • There is frequent daily lifting up to 75 pounds involving transferring, positioning and moving individuals and/or moving program supplies. You will frequently daily squat, bend, and stoop.

  • You must be able to engage and maintain Oregon Invention System (OIS) approved restraints for one (1) hour or less.

  • You will be exposed to a variety of work settings both within the home(s) and the community.

  • You must have a valid license to drive and maintain an acceptable driving record.

  • You must be able to travel to different work locations to ensure effective crisis response and proactive measures.

THIS IS WHAT YOU NEED TO QUALIFY

Qualifications:

Eighteen months of experience providing direct individual care or training in a related field of human services (i.e., providing assistance to supported individuals or groups with issues such as intellectual and developmental disability, mental and physical disabilities, or substance abuse).

OR

A combination of education and experience.

OR

An Associate or higher-level degree in a related human services field.

Special Qualifications :

  • Possess a valid license to drive and maintain an acceptable driving record.

  • Be able to lift up to 75 pounds.

  • Experience providing supervision of individuals who experience mental, emotional, behavior, physical or medical challenges.

  • Bilingual communication skills are a plus.

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS

  • First Aid/CPR Certification - Requiring you to complete compressions in a kneeling position.

  • Oregon Intervention System Certification (OIS) - Requiring you to physically hold an individual for safety while maintaining an approved restraint on clients which may involve quick movements, changes in physical positioning, and verbal communication with coworkers.

  • Medication Administration Certification - Requiring you to demonstrate competency in completing doctor's orders, appropriate passing of medications to clients, appropriate documentation, and appropriate procedures for emergencies.
