THE POSITION

The Department of Transportation is seeking responsible individuals for conducting standardized knowledge and skills examinations to evaluate the skill and competence of non-commercial and Commercial Driver License (CDL) applicants. The hiring office for this posting has a continuing need for Spanish speaking applicants. Individuals fluent in both English and Spanish are encouraged to apply. Individuals hired for these positions provide information and assistance to Spanish-speaking customers.


DESCRIPTION OF WORK

The basics of this position are:

This position determines the physical and driving qualifications of applicants, and the mechanical conditions of vehicles for conformance to the established standards necessary for safe driving.

Administers non-commercial and commercial driver license knowledge examinations to individuals to ensure they have a knowledge and understanding of the Vehicle Code and traffic signs.

Administers non-commercial and commercial driver license skills tests in accordance with Department standards. Determines vehicle characteristics to ensure appropriate tests are administered. Checks for valid registration and insurance.

Examines paperwork accessing various systems and databases to authenticate identity documents.

Processes test results and applications and issues driver license and identification card products to eligible applicants.

Strictly adheres to all aspects of Driver and Vehicle Services’ Customer Service Policy.

Work Hours and Additional Information:

  • Full-time employment
  • Work Schedule: Tuesday through Saturday, 8:15 am to 4:45 pm, with a 30 minute lunch
  • This position requires a valid non-commercial Class C Driver's License with a Class M, which may be obtained within the first six months of employment or expiration of the probationary period, whichever comes later.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

Qualifications:

  • Minimum Experience and Training Requirements - Two years of experience obtaining, evaluating and providing information to the public.
  • Necessary Special Requirement - Possession of a valid non-commercial Pennsylvania Class C Driver's License.
  • Necessary Special Requirement - Must be twenty-one years of age at the time of application.
  • Condition of Employment - No suspensions or revocations of a driver's license during the five year period immediately preceding appointment.
  • This position requires a valid non-commercial Class C Driver's License with a Class M, which may be obtained within the first six months of employment or expiration of the probationary period, whichever comes later.
