ODNR owns and manages state parks, state forests, state nature preserves and wildlife areas. We license all hunting, fishing and watercraft; oversee and permit all mineral extraction, monitor dam safety, manage water resources and serve as the second largest Law Enforcement presence in the State of Ohio.

What you will do…

  • Manages, coordinates, and supervises statewide fish production and stocking programs in the agency's fish hatcheries
  • Administers Aquatic Specialty Permits (Aquaculture, Bait, Fish Transport/Wholesale, Triploid Grass Carp, stocking letters, etc
  • Oversees fish health program within hatcheries and participates in related responsibilities with other state and federal agencies and university partners
  • Coordinates fisheries access and reservoir dam projects with agency staff and promotes communication of completed projects and their benefits
  • Communicates & responds to requests related to fisheries management programs to the public, other agencies, and Division of Wildlife staff

Qualifications


Completion of graduate core program in wildlife management or fisheries management, biology or zoology or related field of study; 12 mos. exp. in wildlife program management.

  • Or completion of undergraduate core program in previously cited areas; 24 mos. exp. in wildlife program management.
  • Or 12 mos. exp. as Aquatic Biology Program Administrator, 22276.
  • Or 12 mos. exp. as Wildlife Biology Program Administrator, 22286.
  • Or alternative, equivalent evidence of the Major Worker Characteristics noted above.


Knowledge of:
technical writing; budgeting, inventory control; fisheries management, program management; workforce planning; employee training & development; supervisory principles/techniques; public relations; agency policies & procedures (department, division)*; government structure & process (local, state, federal)*; interviewin; natural sciences (fisheries management, aquatic/wildlife biology, zoology, wildlife, communications technology); law (division, Bait Dealer & Aquaculture Provisions of Ohio Revised Code [ORC] 1533 & Ohio Administrative Code [OAC] 1501)*. Skilled in: word processing (Microsoft Office: Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint, Outlook, photographic editing software [e.g., SAS, Adobe Creative Suite: Illustrator, Photoshop, Acrobat]); equipment operation (personal computer, general office equipment, audio visual equipment, camera, video recorder). Ability to: write program plans, policies & procedures; deal with large number of variables & determine specific course of action; calculate fractions, decimals & percentages; use proper research methods in gathering data; gather, collate & classify information about data, people or things; prepare & deliver speeches before specialized audiences & general public; resolve complaints from angry citizens & government officials.
