Overview:
The Outreach Associate has a critical role to play in promoting Representable, the Princeton Gerrymandering Project's web-based tool for collecting community of interest data to inform the drawing of legislative and Congressional maps during the 2021-22 redistricting cycle. The Associate will help set quarterly goals for developing local, state, and regional partnerships for deploying the Representable mapping tool, and oversee a team of student workers and volunteers in meeting those goals. The Associate will also cultivate relationships within Princeton University, to foster a research pipeline for generating scholarly research from the data collected by Representable. And the Associate will participate in developing a new strategic plan for Representable, focusing on alternative use cases for Representable that will engage a new set of stakeholders.
Responsibilities:
  • Expand partnerships with local, state, and regional organizations, to promote the adoption and use of Representable during the 2021-22 redisticting process. Develop and deploy new initiatives to increase usership of Representable among low-income communities. Oversee "mapping drives" in coordination with local partners, to encourage citizens to input community data into
  • Develop relationships within Princeton University and outside it, to explore other use cases for Representable. Use those discussions to create a formal strategy document, charting avenues for the future growth of Representable
  • Develop relationships with departments and programs at Princeton University to foster a pipeline for students and scholars to conduct research using data from Representable.
  • Set quarterly goals for the outreach team and manage team of student workers and volunteers for meeting those goals.
  • Attend and present at conferences and University events, to expand public knowledge of Representable and its applications.
Qualifications:
Essential QualificationsBachelor’s degree

  • Strong organizational and verbal communication skills
  • Experience working with underserved and minority communities
  • Strong writing skills
  • Background in political activism and government policy
Preferred Qualifications
  • Understanding of the redistricting process beneficial
