Job Description

The Application Administrator designs, implements, and administers a wide range of client to server applications that support the broader technology initiatives of ITS; providing a secure, stable, and productive computing experience for faculty, staff, and students. These applications include but are not limited to the following:

  • Endpoint management solution (e.g. client installation, endpoint and mobile device configuration, developing and implementing security policies, asset lifecycle )
  • Data center workload automation (e.g. automate business processes integrating multiple services using various protocols.)
  • Cloud based user data backup
  • Security suites including antivirus and encryption
  • Desktop emergency notification system
  • Core OS Image development and deployment (e.g. develop and automate computer pristine\provision process)
  • Manage database servers which host departmental databases
  • Digital Signage Solution
  • Print Management Reporting Suite

In addition to application administration, this position implements various creative technical solutions to respond to University business and academic needs. Reviews existing processes and implements standardized protocols to contribute to operational efficiency.

Title and salary commensurate with relevant experience based on the following titles and hiring ranges:

Associate Application Administrator (salary up to 75K)
Bachelor's degree in relevant discipline or equivalent combination of education, technical certification, and experience. 1-2 years of system and application administration in a multi-platform environment with an emphasis on troubleshooting client/server issues or a minimum of two years or related experience.

Application Administrator (salary up to 85K):
Bachelor's degree in relevant discipline or equivalent combination of education, technical certification, and experience. A minimum of three years of system and application administration in a multi-platform environment with an emphasis on troubleshooting client/server issues. Minimum of one-year experience analyzing customer needs and providing information technology-based solutions to meet those needs.

Senior Application Administrator (up to 97K):
Bachelor's degree in relevant discipline or equivalent combination of education, technical certification, and experience. A minimum of five years of system and application administration in a multi-platform environment with an emphasis on multi-tier application deployment. Minimum of three years’ experience analyzing customer needs and providing information technology based solutions to meet those needs.


Requirements


Additional experience:
Experience with the deployment and support of applications in a multi-tiered client/server environment
Experience with Microsoft, Mac, and Linux endpoint and server operating systems
Working knowledge of Microsoft Active Directory and Group Policies
Working knowledge of databases and building queries, such as MSSQL, ORACLE, etc
Working knowledge of scripting languages such as Bash, Python, Pearl, Batch, powershell, Ansible etc.
Working knowledge of networking protocols and services, including Transmission Control Protocol/Internet Protocol (TCP/IP), Domain Name System (DNS), Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol (DHCP), Secure Shell Protocol (SSH), File Transfer Protocol (FTP) etc.
Familiarity with large scale data center operation as it relates to Windows and Linux servers, Virtualization, Network Attached Storage (NAS), Storage Area Network (SAN), Virtual Private Network (VPN) and firewalls
Analytical skills with the ability to recommend and implement changes based on analysis
Works independently and has the ability to multitask, manages time and priorities wisely with the understanding of the department priorities.
