We expect to fill 11 vacancies at this time; however, additional positions may be filled from this announcement if they become available.


Responsibilities

  • Use automated inventory programs, scanners and computer terminals to query and load data, and to access inventory information and process transactions.
  • Load/unload trucks and other conveyances, develop space utilization plans, and move materials from dock to bin or from storage to shipping. Operate a forklift and other vehicles.
  • Repair and rehabilitate fire supplies and equipment. Disassemble and reassemble supplies to replace parts.
  • Collate, assemble, inventory and build kits to National Fire Equipment Standards (NFES). Assemble specialized kits transported by air and delivered via parachute.
  • Mix fuel and oil, fill and seal fuel containers, and pack and label materials. Must have a knowledge of DOT Hazardous Materials Regulations 49 CFR.

Travel Required

Occasional travel - This position requires travel by scheduled or chartered aircraft or ground vehicles to various destinations in the western U.S. for incident assignments lasting up to 14 days.

    Physical Demands: Performs work on hard surfaces and in areas that require frequent standing, stooping, bending, and working in tiring and uncomfortable positions. Frequently lifts and carries parts, equipment and packed containers that weigh up to 40 pounds (8 kilograms) on a recurring basis. The heavier items are moved with weight-handling equipment or with assistance from other workers.

    Work Environment: Work in well lighted, heated and ventilated areas. Occasionally works outside or in areas that are drafty and poorly lit. The work is sometimes dusty, dirty and greasy. Is frequently exposed to the possibility of cuts, scrapes and bruises. When working with packaging products, chemicals or petroleum products may be exposed to noxious fumes, skin irritants and flammable chemicals. In certain work situations involving hazardous materials, wears protective clothing, respirators, and other specialized protective devices, in addition to their basic protective equipment (e.g., hard hats, safety glasses, safety shoes, and earplugs).
