Examples of Work

Design, direct and coordinate Nebraska’s Depredation Program. Draft plans, policies, protocols and technical services pertaining to wildlife depredation in conjunction with the Wildlife Management Assistant Administrator. Develop long-term strategic plans, annual operational plans, communication plans, data tracking systems and budgets for projects and the depredation program. Respond and assist costumers one-on-one regarding wildlife nuisance and depredation issues. Collect and interpret wildlife depredation data for presentation at technical and public meetings including focused costumer service meetings. Prepare statutory and regulation recommendations for administrative review. Serve as the State’s representative on depredation related boards/committees. Provide information to various conservation agencies, resource-oriented groups, the public, media, and the commission. Complete other duties as assigned.

Qualifications / Requirements

REQUIREMENTS: Post high school coursework/training with major coursework in fish or wildlife management or a closely related field of biological science plus four years experience in fish or wildlife resource management OR Master's degree plus two years experience OR Ph.D. plus one year of experience. At least two years of the experience must have been in a supervisory capacity.

OTHER: Valid driver's license or able to provide independent authorized transportation.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Working knowledge of life history, ecology and conservation of big game and other wildlife species found in Nebraska. Administrative skills as related to strategic and operational planning, budgeting processes, cost accounting and contract negotiations. Extensive knowledge of depredation tools and techniques involving species such as elk, mule deer, white-tailed deer, pronghorn, turkeys, geese and mountain lions. Knowledge of agriculture damage issues caused by wildlife. Ability to perform heavy physical labor; work outdoors for long periods of time; work outside normal business hours such as early mornings/late nights/weekends; fly as a passenger in small aircraft. Operate and maintain firearms, trucks, atv’s/utv’s and trailers. Ability to prioritize work schedules, direct work of employees, establish goals and objectives, communicate effectively and develop and maintain professional relationships with NGOs, universities, government agencies, media and the public.
