Position is responsible for supporting the Directors in development and implementation of legislative and stakeholder advocacy plans to further the mission and strategic objectives of Business and Neighborhood Services (BNS) and Department of Metropolitan Development (DMD).

Position Responsibilities

Serve as point of contact for BNS and DMD staff contact with local elected or appointed individuals, and state legislature.

Advocate points of view on behalf of the directors, the departments, and the city.

Develop and implement BNS and DMD advocacy and public policy strategies with supporting documents and materials.

Develop and maintain relationships with key legislative and government officials, allied organizations, and issue-oriented coalitions.

Monitor legislative/governmental activities, grant and funding opportunities, and public policy trends and developments, with the goal of proactive organizational response to opportunities and issues.

Obtain, analyze and prepare summaries of pertinent bills that could be of interest/potentially impact BNS and DMD.
Regularly track and report status of bills, committee work and other legislative actions.

Work with internal departments to coordinate and prepare policy positions and policy alternatives.

Follow up with relevant government authorities /legislative contacts to advocate policy positions.

Work with the Directors, CFO's, CCO's, and other senior staff to represent BNS & DMD interests.

Perform any other job related instructions as requested.

Qualifications

Bachelor's Degree in political science, public administration, public policy or related field or equivalent years of relevant work. experience is required. A minimum of three (3) years of relevant experience in public policy and legislative advocacy is required. Experience in analyzing and drafting policy positions is required.

Independent Judgment

Position requires the knowledge of established policies and procedures, as well as strong communications skills and the ability to work independently with little oversight.
