The duties of this position require a constituted state law enforcement officer (pursuant to 379.3313, F.S.) certified by the Criminal Justice Standards and Training Commission, empowered to enforce all laws of the State with full powers of arrest. Responsibilities are to protect life, limb, and property on the waters and lands of the State. Enforce fish and wildlife laws and regulations, federal rules and regulations, boating safety enforcement and environmental investigations. This includes, but is not limited to, regulations of salt and freshwater fisheries, hunting, and the protection of both game and non-game species of fish and wildlife. This position investigates alleged violations of resource laws, seizes evidence, makes arrests, and testifies in court. Provides general police protection for citizens and visitors who use the lands and waters of the State of Florida. This position assists other agencies, upon request, in controlling and securing areas during disasters, hurricanes, fires, etc. and is subject to call 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. This position requires independent judgment and the ability to apply technical law enforcement knowledge with limited supervision.


Enforces federal, state and local laws, rules and regulations with an emphasis on resource protection, boating violations and policing state parks and state managed lands. This will be accomplished by patrolling state waters, air, and land in order to detect violations. This patrol will be done via watercraft, aircraft, all-terrain vehicles, foot patrol and highway. Enforcement actions will include the physical identification and apprehension of suspected violators and measures employed to gain voluntary compliance through public contact and education.


Conducts investigations of crimes, crimes scenes and crash scenes for the purpose of gathering witness testimony and physical evidence to be used in prosecuting suspects and otherwise determining criminal causes which may be indicated. Investigations may include resource crimes, vessel homicide, marine theft, title fraud and background investigations. Assignments may include follow-up work on cases initiated by other Division officers. Reviews all boating accident reports prepared by Division Officers for the assigned area to determine cause and assist in determination of possible criminal charges.


The incumbent shall properly prepare and complete all forms and documents related to enforcement activities such as inspections, written warnings, citations, affidavits, property receipts and releases and other paperwork that may be required by the Department, Division, State Attorney's Office, US Attorney's Office or any other entity having oversight of criminal or civil prosecution and present related court testimony. The incumbent shall document time worked, activities conducted, and complete other administrative reports and logs as may be required by federal, state, commission and division regulations.


The incumbent will respond to incidents and take the appropriate action, including, but not limited to medical assistance, mechanical assistance, dissemination of information, referral to other agency or division. The incumbent may be called upon to work individually or with other persons from this or other agencies. This may be for the purpose of conducting daily patrol, security for state property, government officials and dignitaries, surveillance, investigating targeted enforcement as well as being an agency representative on a task force or providing assistance in a civil disturbance, natural disaster, public assemblies military or law enforcement displays.


Incumbent will properly use, care for and maintain all commission issued gear and equipment.
