New job Crops & Soils Coordinator in Vermont | 2021

Conduct integrated research and related comprehensive educational programs in the areas of crop, soil, and water management for University of Vermont Extension. Operate, program, and maintain automated water quality monitoring station infrastructure. Plan, implement, and evaluate research and education programs provided to local and national farming and scientific community. Report to the UVM Extension Agronomic Specialist.

Minimum Qualifications (or equivalent combination of education and experience)

Bachelor’s degree in scientific or related field with three years’ experience related to agriculture in soils and agronomic management required. Experience in applied field based research including a basic understanding of experimental design, data analysis and interpretation for farming, public, and scientific communities. Working knowledge of related USDA programs, land treatment plans, nutrient management plans, and conservation practices. Basic mechanical, construction, and computer skills. Knowledge of dairy agricultural operations, crops, soil, and conservation practices. Writing skills and proficiency in the use of computers and other electronic technologies required. Effective interpersonal and communication skills required to work with researchers, farmers and the general public.

Experience operating, programming, and maintaining water autosampling equipment.
Experience with flow measurement devices.

Desirable Qualifications

Experience coordinating with government agencies, business, researchers, and farmer organizations preferred.
Knowledge of environmental issues and agricultural water quality regulations. Working knowledge of spreadsheets.
Working knowledge of USDA EQIP programs, RUSLE2, and NRCS conservation practices.
Experience with electromagnetic meters, and pressure transducer-weir combination devices.
