The Sioux Gateway Airport wants an individual who is self-motivated and self-directed to join our team as an Airport Operations Officer.

The position disseminates information pertaining to airfield conditions via the NOTAM system; coordinates closely with FAA ATC during ongoing airport activities that affect the normal operation of the airport; performs FAA Part 139 Airport Self-Inspections and Discrepancy Reporting; performs TSA TSR 1540 and 1542 required inspections.

The employee in this position will monitor and enforce airport rules and regulations including those relating to ramp safety, operate various communication systems and airport operational data provider systems.

The employee in this position also assists in maintaining cleanliness of the airport terminal and light maintenance including snow removal around the airport terminal when necessary.

The Airport expected scheduling hours could be between early morning until late evening flight arrivals with flexible hours to be determined.

Duties

  • Patrols and performs inspections of terminal and airside facilities to ensure safety, security and operational efficiency of the Airport and maintain to the highest standards in appearance and cleanliness.
  • Performs FAR Part 139 Airport Self-Inspections and Discrepancy Reporting.
  • Performs TSA TSR 1540 and 1542 required inspections.
  • Performs escort of vehicles in air operations areas.
  • Assists in security and driver training for airport personnel.
  • Monitors and enforces airport rules and regulations including those relating to ramp safety.
  • Operation various communication systems and airport operational data provider systems.
  • Disseminates information pertaining to airfield conditions via the NOTAM system
  • Coordinates closely with FAA – ATC during ongoing airport activities that affect the normal operation of the airport.
  • Monitors pertinent weather data and disseminate hazard information to airport tenants and users.
  • Promotes airport safety and security.
  • Responds to emergencies.
  • Maintains training and certification requirements.
  • Conducts on-the-job training when required.
  • Assists in maintaining cleanliness of the airport terminal and light maintenance including snow removal around the airport terminal when necessary.
  • Maintains good public relations through courteous and prompt attention to all citizen requests for service.
  • Maintains regular and punctual attendance at work.
  • Regularly lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift up to 50 pounds.
  • Expected to temporarily perform duties outside of normal classification in the event of a declared emergency. In the event that an employee is excused from work other than being sick, they will be required to report to work in a state of declared emergency.

Requires the ability to write and speak effectively with fellow employees and the general public; read in English and compare similarities and differences between words and series of numbers; apply common sense understanding to the work process, procedures, program and services; and to provide and follow verbal and written instructions. Requires the ability to work in a team environment under the direction of an immediate supervisor in order to accomplish tasks; the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationship with co-workers, airport personnel tenants, other organization and the general public.

Physical Requirements:
The employee frequently is required to use hands and fingers to handle and feel; reach with hand and arms; and smell. Ability to quickly move hands, hands together with arms, or two hands to grasp, manipulate or assemble objects, ability to exert muscle force repeatedly or continuously over time; this involves muscular endurance and resistance to muscle fatigue, ability to use abdominal and lower back muscles to support part of the body repeatedly or continuously over time without “giving out” or fatiguing, ability to quickly and repeatedly end, stretch, twist or reach out with your body, arms and/or legs. Regularly lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift up to 50 pounds.

Work Environment:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to indoor conditions and risk of electrical shock. The employee is frequently exposed to high places and fumes or airborne particles. The employee is occasionally exposed to moving mechanical parts, toxic or caustic chemicals and vibration. The noise level in the work environment is usually minimal. Must be able to regularly work in outside weather condition with regular exposure to extreme heat and cold.

Minimum Required Qualifications

Possession of a valid U.S. Driver’s License. Must be able to pass a 10-year Criminal History Record Check (CHRC) and all applicable TSA required security reviews. Must be able to obtain a Movement Area Endorsement within 3 months from start date.

High school or GED and any combination of aviation experience or training which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities.
Or
Any equivalent combination of experience and training that provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS AND ACCEPTABLE EXPERIENCE/ TRAINING:

  • Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor’s Degree in Airport/Aviation Management, Public Administration, Business Administration or related field.
  • Four (4) years of full-time work experience in basic airport operations officer at a commercial airport.
  • Completion of an Airport Intern Program is desirable, but not necessary.
