    Duties

    Summary

    This is a Direct Hire Authority (DHA) solicitation utilizing the DHA for Certain Personnel of the DoD Workforce to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to positions in the competitive service.

    About the Position: This position is located in Evans Army Community Hospital, Fort Carson, CO, Department of Radiology, performing Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) examinations of patients to aid in the diagnosis of disease or injury.


    Responsibilities

    • As a Medical Instrument Technician, you will perform a wide variety of complex Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) examinations of patients to aid in the diagnosis of disease or injury.
    • Receive and review requests from physicians for Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) examinations of patients.
    • Analyze the condition at issue and determine the procedures and equipment necessary to best meet the needs of the individual case.
    • Receive and position patient for examination.
    • Explain procedures and actions to allay fears and secure maximum cooperation.
    • Assist radiologist or physician in reading or evaluating results.
    • Independently perform complex computerized 3D and 2D MRI scanning of the head and/or body.
    • Confer with radiologist to establish the requirement for non-standard examinations.
    • Advise radiologist of the result of examination and provide preliminary diagnostic evaluation.
    • Perform operator level maintenance and care of equipment.

    • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
    • A Personnel Security Investigation is required
    • This position has specific initial background investigation and periodic re-verification requirements since its duties require interaction with children and youth under the age of eighteen (18) years of age on a recurring basis.
    • This position is subject to annual seasonal influenza vaccinations. Applicants tentatively selected for this position will be required to sign a statement consenting to seasonal influenza vaccinations or must provide a recognized exemption.
    • Immunization screening is required. Hepatitis B immunization is required for all positions with direct patient contact. Applicants may be required to show proof of other immunizations depending on the type of position.
    • All Health Care Providers must be able to obtain and maintain current Basic Life Support (BLS) training and certification that is sponsored or endorsed by the American Heart Association (AHA).
    • Current Advanced Life Support or other advanced certification does not supersede BLS completion.
    • A pre-placement medical examination is required.
    • This position is a Testing Designated Position (TDP) subject to a pre-employment drug screening, and random testing thereafter, to include testing based on reasonable suspicion and testing due to direct involvement with an on-duty accident.
    • Applicants must be able to fulfill credentialing requirements and obtain and maintain appropriate/relevant clinical privileges.
    • Position is designated as an Inclement Weather Essential Position. Every attempt to report for duty on time and/or remain on duty during severe weather conditions is required.
    • This is a TERM position. Time-limited and may be extended beyond six (6) years, up to eight (8) years. Incumbent will be required to sign a TERM memorandum of statement.

    In order to qualify, you must meet the education and/or experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application.     Specialized Experience: To qualify based on your experience, your resume must describe at least one year of experience which prepared you to do the work in this job. Specialized experience is defined as: Performing a full scope of Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) examinations which involve obtaining high quality images from difficult and varied MRI examinations by setting up, adjusting, operating, or maintaining MRI and ancillary equipment. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-08).

    Education Substitution for Specialized Experience for GS-09: Graduate education or an internship meets the specialized experience required only in those instances where it is directly related to the work of the position. Two full years of graduate education or a master's degree meets the requirements for GS-9 (Note: You MUST submit transcripts for proof of education to verify your claim).

    Combination of Experience and Education Substitution for Specialized Experience for GS-09: If applicable, insert appropriate combination statement. Only graduate education in excess of one year may be used to qualify when combining Specialized Experience and Education. Compute the percentage of these requirements and the total is at least 100%. (To compute the percentage, divide your total months of qualifying experience by 12. Then divide your semester hours of graduate education beyond one year by 18. Add the two percentages. The total percentage must equal at least 100 percent to qualify. (Note: You must attach a copy of your transcripts.)

    Only degrees from an accredited college or university recognized by the Department of Education are acceptable to meet positive education requirements or to substitute for experience.

    **An ARRT (American Registry of Radiologic Technologists) Registration/Certification is highly desired**
